That, on top of the fact that Ripley is giving the performance of a lifetime. Janney just isn't even close to giving a performance of the same caliber as Ripley.
Ripley just deserves it more, for multiple reasons. To be honest, I would have much rather seen Block or Hilty get nominated than Janney. Again, for multiple reasons.

IMO it's a very different situation. Janney wasn't the only person nominated from 9 to 5. Should Marc Kudisch withdraw? Dolly? She was nominated because she was the most deserving of the girls, and gave, IMO, the best performance in the show. There's nothing unjust or unfair about her nomination over Hilty and Block. The snubs in Best Musical, Best Book, Sets, etc. are something to whine about, but Hilty and Block had an outside shot at best.
Anyone could've seen this coming. Unless they were nominated as a group (I believe Janney brought this up? Like Billy Elliot) people were going to be left out. Not putting Hilty and Block in featured set this up to happen.

Ripley is giving an excellent performance in N2N, but I thought her performance in SIDE SHOW was better...plus her voice was in top form back in 1997.
Still, she deserves to win this year.

I kind of want Allison Janney to win. Although she's giving an excellent performance in N2N, there's just something about Alice Ripley that leaves me cold.
