A 'Whitney Houston Broadway Musical' is in the works

The estate for the late Whitney Houston, has signed a deal with Primary Wave Music Publishing, and has announced big plans for Houston's music - including a Broadway musical. Primary Wave is currently 'in discussions' with Broadway producers to bring a musical and Vegas-style production to the stage, according to her sister-in-law Pat Houston, who is executor of the estate..

"Whitney was America's sweetheart, and the idea now is to remind people that that is what her legacy is," commented Larry Mestel, Primary Wave's founder.

Other projects include a touring concert with a hologram of the singer who died in 2012 performing on stage, and a new album of unreleased tracks from her debut album in 1985, The touring hologram is already in the development stages, and will be backed up by her original band and touring back up singers - including her brother Gary.

This is just gonna be depressing. There's a reason she can't be done on snatch game.

Also, the estate is going to have a stake in it, which means that we are getting, in all likelihood, a very glossy version of her life that will fail to address the true grit she lived through in earnest

It might not even be a bio musical. God, I hope not.

If the estate's behind it, I'm just gonna assume Whitney won't be singing "I Will Always Love You" to Robyn Crawford

The difficulty with an original story or even a biopic is that some of her most popular songs are tied to The Bodyguard, which is already a self-contained story that doesn't need extra songs. However, I would not be opposed to an original musical with some deep cuts.

Basically, give me "My Name is Not Susan."
