Her voice sounds very thin in these clips, as I expected

I just found audios of her singing "Do I Love You..." and "Ten Minutes Ago." And sad to say, it turned me off. She sounded way TOO poppish and whiny in those songs. :/

As I said before she sounds very Jamie Lynn Sigler when she played the role. Andrew Lippas pop orchestrations that he did for that tour would suit her voice better than the lusch troob orchestrations. I wish I could find video of Sigler in the role.

Thanks for the links! Yeah, way too poppish and thin for me. Doesn't sound like she has good breath support either.
Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

Somebody sent me an audio of her opening night. Wow! She sounds awful. Just in "Do I Love You" she is flat, can't sustain notes and is breathy. They really couldn't find a name that could sing? Maybe it's a good thing she it too "special" to do 8 shows a week.

Does anyone have a recording of A Lovely Night with Fran? I would love to hear bits of her singing voice.

Ugh, "Do I Love You" was altered so much and the harmony between the two was butchered. I liked her tone during this song (until the belting), but I would have enjoyed it more if she used vibrato. On the other hand, Joe sounds wonderful, his voice has a Josh Groban vibe to it.

Joe Carroll sounds very good, but...do ticket sales honestly justify those vocals? She sounds weak and breathy and verging on off-pitch in everything I've heard so far. It's a shame because, as others have said, the lush orchestrations and vocal arrangements are the best part of this show and she clearly isn't able to sing any of them as written.

but I would have enjoyed it more if she used vibrato.
That's what I meant by poor breath support--she seems to have trouble sustaining notes and when she does use vibrato, it's very shaky.

Just curious, since they obviously lowered the keys for Carley, do they go back to the higher keys when the understudy is on?

I don't think it's shaky, I just think it's very thin.

When she holds it long enough to tell, it's pretty fluttery IMO (especially during "In My Own Little Corner")

One point I'd make is that this makes me realize how incredibly fantastic Laura Osnes was in this role. I'd rather praise Laura, who I still think deserved the Tony, than denigrate Carly. And this recording was made on her opening night, first time in front of an audience, and I'm sure she was very nervous. I will wait a month before I go see the new cast.

I am just wondering who SHOULD they have chosen to play Ella

Rachel Potter from X Factor, who has great Brosdway experience, auditioned for Ella and wasn't happy at all when she lost it over CRJ.

I think Sierra Boggess would make a wonderful Cinderella.

I think Sierra is too mature for the role. It would have been great to see Rachel Potter.
In any case, they should have got someone who can sing the show as written...or sing the show at all. I don't care what demographic they're trying to market, but $150 ticket buyers deserve better quality.

After Carly's engagement, I'm hoping that Potter will replace her.

You're right. Audiences deserve at least a 100 dollar discount for it being transposed a half step.
