UPDATED: Jepsen could keep the marquee up until the summer rush. I initially posted that these were stunt castings, but Drescher is a great actress and Jepsen went to a performing arts college. They could both easily be great!

I've never been more disappointed. This is going to turn an exquisite show into a joke, and trivialize the beautiful work that the current cast is doing. This show reminded me why I love musical theatre, and I guarantee it will no longer have that effect once Jepsen steps into the role.

Her and Fran are going to make a quite a show. TBH, I can't wait to return to see it!

Excuse me while I vomit......ugh this is utterly disgusting. Fran I can see fitting the role....but Carly is just no....they should've just closed if they were going to do this.

How is she classless?

I thought the point of stunt casting was to get someone who people will show up for?

...close it, maybe?
I couldn't resist.

This is really terrible. And I couldn't agree more, NYCBound91. My feelings exactly!

So they should have closed the show and put a couple of hundred people out of work instead of recasting the role with another performer? You are definitely not a Rand Paul devotee -- you actually want these people to go on unemployment!

Anything I've read about her hasn't exactly painted her as a Laura Osnes type who handles herself with Grace and poise. She's always come off more as acting 10 years younger than she actually is. An 18 year old pop star who's pushing 30. I could be completely off base

At least the quality of the cast will now match the quality of the new book...

Too bad Billy Porter can't just do the role in drag, then it would stay open for years.

As someone didn't know anything at all about Jepsen, it just seems that there is a lot of prejudging (should I say hating?)here. I personally am more inclined to give the producers some credit. After all, they are the ones who put together what I thought was a fabulous cast to begin with, so I think that they're pretty damn smart and know what they're doing. I'm sure that they had many choices and didn't just cast this role off the street.

I have a feeling this will go the Carrie Underwood/Sound of Music route. Everyone saying she'll suck, everyone involved saying she'll be amazing, and then she'll end up being terrible.

I mean, she could surprise us all and be brilliant, but I don't think it's pre-judging when you're a little doubtful about the abilities of someone who has had one hit (autotuned) pop song over a year ago and seems to have disappeared since then. And according to that article she has zero professional theater experience, which doesn't necessarily mean someone is untalented but based on what we know about her it doesn't seem promising.

As much as I enjoy Call Me Maybe (and hate myself for it), I never liked her rendition of another princess song, Part of your World. Maybe she'll surprise me, but meh.
