Jonathan B Wright never performed as Melchior, either.
Jonathan B. Wright rarely showed up to perform as Hanschen.
He was there every time I went. I do know that he was forced to take a leave because of an incident with Lea...This happened right before the broadway strike in 08?

What happened between Jonathan and Lea?
And why does Worley owe her career to Channing's performance track record?
His attendance was only a problem at the end.
And yes, there was an incident between them that is probably best left unrepeated. Neither of them gains anything by it being re-told. And I'm sure I only know part of the truth.

And Robi Hager or Zach Reiner-Harris never went on for Melchior.
Zach Reiner-Harris was not a Melchior understudy, he was a Moritz understudy. Either way, though, he never went on.
Did Sutton's u/s ever go on during the course of her stay in TMM?
During her last year in Millie, Sutton was out more often than she was on.
Okay...what happened with Lea and John...come on...is BWW seriously gonna take the high road on this one and not gossip? That would be a first haha
Sorry, I can't speak for everyone, but I will take the high road.
I have no idea how true this is, but this is what I've heard:
Lea and Jonathan were sleeping together, while they were both in relationships with other people. They were found out, and things didn't end well. During a performance, Lea did something onstage that pissed Jonathan off. When they were backstage, he yelled at her and cursed her out while his mic was still hot. After that, he was suspended.
Like I said, this is just what I remember hearing a long time ago. But if it is true, I guess SPRING AWAKENING really was a high school.
Would've loved to see Jonathan B. Wright as Melchior!
I'm with you Steven. I'm fairly certain that someone told me he never got to play it at the Atlantic, either.
During the final weekend of Lestat a bunch of understudies went on due to illness and a birth. Drew Sarich went on as Lestat and Sean MacLaughlin as Armand. However Will Swenson was listed as the first understudy for Armand (and 2nd for Lestat) but because it was such a short run they passed over Will and went with Sean because he fit into Drew's costumes.
I would kill to see Jonathan B. Wright as Melchior WITH Jennifer Damiano as Wendla.

Mr. Roxy-
I don't know about King & I, but I have a playbill for Lute Song on tour with Brynner's understudy.
Actor2-
Because Channing never missed, Worley (who was the standby) was able to go and work comedy/night clubs, where she was discovered and asked to do "The Mad Show" and then "Laugh In."
Jacob Clemente never got to perform as Michael in Billy Elliot.

According to her NY Times obit Bibi Osterwald only played Dolly 122 times during her entire seven years as standby (not never, but really not very often for seven years). It also lists several of the actresses she went on for during the run, but does not include Carol Channing, so I would assume that means she didn't go on until Carol left the show.
As for those stars who pride themselves on never calling out, I have mixed feelings about them. While I admire that work ethic, as an audience member (and really even on a show I'm working) I would much rather see an understudy in good health than a star who's struggling to get through a performance because they should have called out and taken the sick day.
Pearl Sun goes on quite frequently in the NEXT TO NORMAL tour...
"Pearl Sun goes on quite frequently in the NEXT TO NORMAL tour..."
I know that, dear. It was just a bit of humorous sarcasm. That's why I listed her alongside Lenora Nemetz, who is famous for understudying countless roles on Broadway.

And I would add Karyn Quackenbush and Maureen Moore to that list of perpetual understudies.
is there a more perpetual understudy than Linda Mugleston?

I think Linda, Maureen and Lenora probably tie.
I don't think Jennifer Paz ever got to go on as Eponine or Cosette.
