Merwin Foard never went on for Michael Cerveris during the Sweeney Todd revival.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

Maggie Griffin never went on for Kathy Griffin.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Heidi Blickenstaff never went on for Ursula in The Little Mermaid as an understudy, although she did end up playing the part. Does that count?

Madge Allsop never had to go on from Dame Edna Everage during her two solo shows.

Also, I don't think the understudies/stand by's for Kerry Ellis or Katie Rose Clarke had to go on. A actor that never performed their u/s role..

John Hill as Peter Allen for Hugh Jackman in TBFO.

I doubt Dave Hull will ever go on for Daniel Radcliffe.

Kevin Spirtas never went on as Peter Allen, either.

JoAnne Worley owes her career to the fact that Carol never missed in Dolly!

Did Natalie Weiss ever go on as Elphaba on the tour?

^ I assume not, or we would've been raped with the fact.

I know that Marian Seldes never missed a one of the 1809 performances of Deathtrap on Broadway. Isn't that still a record? Don't know who her understudies might have been though.

Jennifer Damiano was listed as the understudy for Wendla in Spring Awakening, but she was never allowed to perform due to her age and the sexual nature of the role.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

She never performed Wendla. She performed other roles (Ilse, Martha, Thea).

Jenn went on as some of the other female roles, but never Wendla.
For those who thought NEXT TO NORMAL wouldn't have a life outside Broadway, well it's now playing in 4 cities, 9 different countries and has been translated into 6 languages.

Jonathan B Wright never performed as Melchior, either. He was listed as the understudy for much of his run with the show. I would have LOVED to have seen his take on it.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Did Phoebe Strole ever go on as Wendla? I remember Krysta said that she was the first person other than Lea to play the role on Broadway, but I'm not sure if Phoebe ever got to go on.

AC126748,

Phoebe Strole did go on as Wendla. Not very much, she did at least once but then Eryn Murman and Alexandra Socha started going on way more.

Yeah Phoebe went on a few times around June/July 2007 just before Alexandra Socha was hired. Not sure if she ever went on after that.
