ACL Reival Recording?

Oh man. It looks to me like this thread has turned into a hoot. I'll have to go back and really read in when Im done posting.

Anyway, so Im listening to the CD now and of course, I have comments.

The tempo of the opening could be faster.

LOVE At The Ballet. Spectacular.

Sing..... Hm. Yeah, really dont love it. Yes, yes I know, Kristine is SUPPOSED to be bad..... but there's a line between bad because the character is written that way and bad, it pains me to listen to.

Montage is great. Natalie Cortez makes for a wonderful Morales.

Dance: Ten; Looks: Three also pains me just a bit. Maybe Jessica Lee Goldyn makes up for in person what she lacks on the CD, but I really had trouble getting through the song when I first played the CD.

Music in the Mirror, lovely. Charlotte is wonderful and Im sure her dancing is absolutely superior.... it wouldnt kill her to be a tad bit more convincing. On a whole, a solid 8 for her.

What I Did For Love was incredible. Truly, truly wonderful.

One Finale was also wonderful.

Overall, I give the CD an 8. I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't overjoyed either. Maybe I'll feel differently once I see the show.

Anybody think the tempos in the opening and "At the Ballet" are a little off?

Is Charlotte singing "The Music and the Mirror" in it's original key?

Either way, I thought her singing was just fine. Nothing more, nothing less.

I actually really love Charlotte's voice. It's different and it's always attracted me.

I think "The Music and the Mirror" is a slightly lower for Charlotte.

And the opening number wasn't sped up only for the original recording...it WAS that fast in the show.

I love Charlotte and her voice..... I just wish she sounded a little more into it.

She's not a bad singer.... just Music in the Mirror was quite unflattering for her.

No, she's not a bad singer, but she's not a good singer either. Bland bland bland...like most of the women on the recording (save Mara Davi and maybe Natalie Cortez).

And while we're talking about changed keys, is At the Ballet slightly higher than the OBC? It sounds to me like Ms. Davi is belting higher than Kay Cole did...tho I may be wrong. And I LOVE the new, faster tempo on this version of the song.

Also, not really a fan of some of the new orchestrations.

To me, "At The Ballet" does sound higher as well. Continuing on the subject of changed keys, is "I Can Do That" in the original key? I can't really tell, but I don't *think* it is. Anyone know?

I Can Do That isn't higher/lower. Never mind, it's on iTunes!

Well, Kay Cole was only in the show for her voice. Most actresses that played Maggie later on were better. Mara Davi is much, much better than Cole in every way. Cole wasn't a good dancer at all.

And as for D'Ambosie's TM&TM, overall she does a good job. I think everyone is trying to compare her to Donna, and frankly, nobody compares to Donna.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I wasnt comparing Ms. Davi to Ms. Cole--didnt mean for it to come off like--I was just asking about the key. I think both ladies have fabulous voices.

As far as the comparisons of Charlotte to Donna--I'm one of the few that dont love Donna on the OBC in M&TM. I adore her on other recordings, but to me the Donna/Charlotte comparison is a moot point.

I LOVE IT! I'm SO HAPPY that Barnes and Nobel had it!

Question: Did Charlotte sing some of Cassie's parts on the Montage Section down an octave than what Donna did on the orignal? (And no, I'm not on a first name basis, I just can't spell their last names right!)

MTVMANN - "You cannot go to the movies until you finish your homework"...right!?

I still love Charlotte's voice and her emotion in the theatre. So I still see that when I listen to the recording.

Mara Davi is spectacular in this show. They should have let her go on and not, Judy.

******SPOILER*****

I still don't understand why Judy gets picked? Cassie, Diana & Val - yes, all the men are understandable(Bobbie only gets picked because of Paul), but why Judy??

I understand they didn't want to change anything, but I was actually hoping they'd change who gets picked.

I also noticed that they set the show in 1975, but that last thing I heard was that they were going to update it to the present. when was this concept abandoned? and how did I miss the announcement? re: ACL Revival Recording Updated On: 10/12/06 at 02:13 AM

I hope the orchestrations don't sound as "digital" live.

I love Jessica Lee Goldyn. She seems really, really talented but not AT ALL for this part. She should have been cast as some other role b/c as you can tell from the Broadway.com video, she obviously has done this show a lot. But for Val? No.

The odd thing about Jessica Lee Goldyn, though, is that she HAS done A Chorus Line before (in whatever capacity, be it regional theatre, community theatre, etc.) and she was cast as Val! I just do not understand how people see her fitting the role. It boggles my mind.

She does make me crack up every time she sings "Tits! Where are my tits?"

She was much funnier in the theatre IMO. It is nice to see her recreate the role, different as it may be. I like what she does with it, and leaves the no-nonsence for Morales. Plus, with Sheila being played as a complete bitch, Goldyn as Val is a funny foil.

Jessica Lee Goldyn also understudies the role of Cassie.

Oh, I forgot about that! Goodness gracious... She looks so young!! How in the world can she play Cassie?? Jessica Lee Goldyn is just miscast all around in this production.
