It's fantastic! I love it!
They included a lot of Mark and Connie's stuff and some more dialogue. It's more theatrical than the original...as in there's more dialogue and acting (so things don't always sound as pretty, in a good way!)...
Also, Charlotte sounds amazing!

Add me to the supporters. It's a brilliantly created recording....the best Broadway cast albums I've heard.
From the perspective of someone who's not familiar with the Original, it's a great representation of the show.

I'm still on the fence about it.
The original is so classic and amazing and I'm so used to it that hearing the new cast is very strange.
I do like, however, that it includes more dialogue and dance music that was--I assume--cut for time from the original.
I haven't yet been wowed by any one performer. I'm harshy comparing all of them to the originals (as I'm sure we all will be) and, though I should give it a few more listens, I haven't yet been struck by someone better than their original cast counterpart.
To me, it seems to lack the raw nuance and truth of the original. For the original cast, it WAS their stories--the new cast is just recreating them.
EDIT: I know it's picky, but the sluggish tempo of the opening is also very jarring...

Also, NOTHING was added back in to the montage, which is annoying because the beginning of the track is a continuation of Connie's speech.
But Natalie Cortez sounds brilliant. They also added a lot to the opening, including the cuts and the numbers they keep.

Except for more Dance music, i have no reason to buy a new recording of this.
The original is just too, well original.

It is on Amazon.
I got it because I enjoyed the cast and, well of course, enjoyed the show.
I wanted to be able to listen to it right after to keep those images in my mind. Adn they are still there. Brilliant.

Posted: 10/9/06 at 11:19pmNo new dancers can dance as fast as the Original Cast?
#14re: ACL Reival Recording?
Posted: 10/9/06 at 11:21pmThey can. I just don't understand the reason behind it being so deathly slow.

So the dancers can make it thru the rest of the show?
Dancers ain't what they used to be.

Oh I just listened again to both of them.
Well, oh well!
They also didn't include any of the tapping or dancing - as they did on the original.

That's disappointing. I love the sound of the dancing during the opening.
And the tapping was added only for for original recording. Wayne Cilento never actually wore tap shoes in the original production.

No, I know (about Cilento)...I was just saying, in case anyone expected either thing.
I still wish they included AND. I think with all the updates now, the only person on the line (besides Larry, though he doesn't really count) that doesn't get a nice chunk is Bobby. (Which was sad because I thought Ken Alan did a great job.)

I thought they were supposed to include "And," or is that on iTunes?
All the performances are relatively ok, but I still believe no one can beat Pam Blair's Val, she just gave such a spectacular performance on the original cast recording.

I live in San Francisco, and all the Press Releases that I have read say that October 10th the New Cast Recording of ACL will be out. So I did a good search all over SF today just to see if they would have it tommorrow.
Virgin records said that it accturally came out on October 3rd and that they had 23 on the shelf. Well, the only one on the shelf was an new remastered of the Original Broadway Cast (which is a Two CD disc)...but the guy looked at his computer and it simply says on the screen NEW BROADWAY CAST, October 3rd.
So, he called his manager to see if there were any boxed up in the warehouse above and the manager said no, dont have ACL at all. The guy who helped me was confused and wanted to know what was going on. He was very sweet, but he has no idea why they say they have it and they dont and that they sold some already too.
Borders at a certain location said that they have it and that it will be on the shelf tomorrow. But other Border stores said they never heard of it.
Tower will not carry it beacuse they are going out of BIZ.
Ameoba Records, had no clue that there was a new recording.
Rasputian Music said that they will only carry the Re-Mastered Recording.
Two other Borders said that they will not carry them...it was not even in their systems to order it. And another one I just called this very minute, said that they were SUPPOSED to get them, but they did not get them in yet and may not have them in by tomorrow to sell.
I finally called Barnes and Noble in FISHERMAN's WARF and they said that they had them in stock and that they will be ready to be put on the shelf tomorrow morning and he will hold one for me. Even though he assuremed he would have one, he had not seen it at all with his own two eyes, just going off the computer. So that sounds iffy to me too.
This is so typical...sometiemes I know the press releases I read are only for the East Coast, and the West Coast gets them a week later...but it is just so weird that all of these well known stores all have mixed dates of released, or will not carry them at all.
So weird...
Any thoughts...

It's so sad to see that a lot of these CD stores closing.
I hate this "digital" world... I need to see those beautiful jewel cases and look at the beautiful slip-in booklet.
By the way, how's the booklet in the CD jewelcase?

GEt it from Amazon, Jovie.
The booklet contains a synopsis - which may be the exact one from the original cast recording - remastered - and some notes re: the revival.
There are a whole lot of great pictures and the lyrics to all the songs. Lyrics and dialogue.
