It was more than tacky.
Let's get this story straight, folks. Technically, he wanted to fire her but knew he'd have to pay her out for breaking the contract if he did. So, he and his company created a hostile work environment hoping she'd quit. That way, he wouldn't have to pay. Her lawyers told her to stay and complete her run. She did, withstanding the abuse. (If you've ever been in this position, you would understand an employer trying to make your life hell when you're just trying to be at work is indeed psychological abuse.) After the run completed, she sued for breach of contract and they settled.

If you've ever been in this position, you would understand an employer trying to make your life hell when you're just trying to be at work is indeed psychological abuse.
Oh, I'm all too familiar with this scenario. A lot of companies still deploy this tactic when they don't want to pay for unemployment benefits, knowing the employee can't afford to sue them.
Don’t know what other issues were his concern. He’s a public figure so it would be hard to win it. Besides addictions don’t have same stigma
Not to mention, he'd have to prove specific damages. He's had works produced consistently ever since, including his latest, which recouped last May.

No one is passing judgment on the rightness or wrongness of how she feels or the validity of her feeling that way. People are simply suggesting after 25 years of complaining, they're tired of hearing it. That's how they feel and it's their right to express that as much as it's her right to say what she wants. To suggest someone doesn't have the right to say that is to use your own phrase, nonsensical.

The fact that she is still asked about the experience proves that people are not tired of hearing about it. I would guess that if you sat down with her and let her lead the conversation, she wouldn't start with complaining about Sunset.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Patti LuPone is probably one of the most brilliant singing actresses EVER. I have always loved her for her brutal honesty as well. IMO she can say whatever she wants. She went thru hell with Sunset and Evita and if she wants to talk about it she can. I can't even imagine what she felt. You have to bear in mind after she found out she was being replaced (in a gossip colum) she had to keep performing and finish her run. It was insane. Also she's been performing in War Paint for MONTHS with a broken hip. Her love for the craft of theatre knows no bounds and I will always be a fan and supporter. She's one of my biggest inspirations being an actor/singer myself.

It’s far more interesting when people do speak out and create controversy. As much as I love Bernadette Peters the contrast between her and Patti is remarkable. Is Bernadette even a real person? She. Is constantly projecting this same persona, scripted jokes, maintaining her iconic look. But we don’t know anything about her except she likes dogs. What makes her angry? What makes her sad? What makes her happy? What are her dreams? I know we’re not entitled to know this information but it’s a lot more interesting. I’d rather listen to Patti speak for hours on any topic than any other Broadway star.

Mmm. Patti is an acclaimed Broadway star with a string of accomplishments - I doubt many know or care about her involvement in Sunset anymore. This is not the same situation as Oak who is basically only known for complaining about nothing.

I'm confused. Is this directed at me simply because I said that it's disrespectful to call a woman a "bitch." I don't think that, that's being PC, I just think that's knowing how to have some class. Your mother should have taught you better.

I had a supervisor on my first job that browbeat and belittled me when I was a 23 year old kid fresh out of college who had no power and no leg to stand on and needed the job. I soon left that job and moved onto a much better job. That was more than 30 years ago. And if I saw the SOB on the street today I would have to be physically restrained from killing him because I’m no longer that naive and scared boy. If ALW deliberately made Patti’s life a living hell for such a petty reason as not wanting to live up to his legal obligation, then as far as I’m concerned she can sling mud at him for the rest of his life and piss on his grave when he’s dead. And I’m not even a fan of Patti. But what he did is unforgivable in every sense of the word.

I don’t think it was you. Referring to comments claiming she is only getting criticism because she is a woman and women aren’t meant to soeak like that AND comments saying would the men just shut up and let her speak.

I don’t think that’s how she chooses to define herself. Aside from her memoir (where OF COURSE she was going to address it!), she only seems to discuss it when she is ASKED about it. She answers questions about it when she’s asked. Don’t fault her because reporters continue asking about it.
