I'll take that over any number of other Broadway "stars" whose every statement is run through publicists and handlers, that it comes off as massively phony."
At Deconstructing Patti, she mentioned Broadway singers whose voices she found boring, and it really seemed like she was about to name names before either thinking better of it or just getting swept up in whatever her next song was. It would've come back to bite her in the ass, no doubt, but I did kind of want to hear specifics.
She was (probably) asked a question, and she answrred it. Yes, answer truthfully but also be responsible for what you're accusing somone of being. To publicly say anyone is 'an alcoholic', 'mentally unstable', etc. without facts is being irresponsible - and eventually there will be consequences. It may have taken ALW 25 years, but he's finally standing his ground. I'm sure he's had enough of this, and realizes she's never going to get over this. If she keeps it up, he may be the one with a new swimming pool - named after her.
I love Patti and I love that she speaks her mind. I love men who don't call women bitches and don't tell them to shut up.
she was paid a million dollars for not working.
She was paid a million dollars for breach of contract. If someone makes a legally binding promise to you, you get to sue them if they break it. I'm sorry basic contract law makes you so mad.
“Webber is a desperate human being. He really is. He created a toxic environment because he didn’t get what he wanted,” she fumed to NY1’s “On Stage.”
Wait, was she looking in a mirror when she said this? Isn't this exactly what she has done for 25 years. Hmm.
"Isn't this exactly what she has done for 25 years."
No. I know many people who just love to work with her. Yes, she's brusque, and no, she doesn't hide her disdain for those who don't live up to her standards, and yes, she brings it every single time she performs.
I like her. I do have a bit of a problem with misogynists who berate her for not acting "nice" and "sweet," like they think a woman ought.

Agreed 100%. LuPone tells it like it is, which along with her immense talent, is why I love her.
LuPone is basically the only Broadway performer to deviate from the modern anodyne "we're all friends" Broadway public face. And god bless her for it.
When Patti was writing her memoir and she submitted her first draft to her publisher, her publisher reportedly said to her after reading it, "You complain a lot." That pretty much sums it up right there.
You will always have people who see the glass half empty, instead of half full.

It still amazes me that a pool cost $1 million. It's a totally different lifestyle than the one I'm exposed to, but she couldn't have really spent the entire thing on that pool, could she?

She's going to be the new Elaine Stritch, which is wonderful.

HA!

So I guess we can forget about seeing her in the next Evita revival? I know, she's aged out of the part...
I honestly wonder if there is something darker about the ALW and Patti Lupone feud....alla Harvey Weinstein. People can hold a grudge, but Ms Lupone's rage toward ALW seems more then simply being #$%$ over for the Broadway transfer of Sunset Blvd. On top of that you don't pay someone $1 million dollars in hush money, especially in the 90s if there was nothing nefarious going on.
It wasn't "hush money," it was breach of contract.

All of this is exactly how I feel! I love how real she is, if she's not over it, why shouldn't she complain! And she's Sicilian, she will probably hold onto this grudge well into her next lifetime.

In her memoir, she said that she was made to feel insecure in her role from Sydmonton on, that there always seemed to be whispers and rumors that she'd be replaced. Imagine going to work every day, expected to be at the very top of your game for a paying audience, while there are constant murmurings that you're going to be fired. I think there was a lot of psychological and emotional damage inflicted on her. She's also been very upfront about the impact it had on her personal life and that her marriage almost ended because of what she and her family had been through during the entire Sunset Boulevard experience. Plus she already carries grudges easily and til the end of days.

I also think her experience in Evita was not too different with whispers within the cast and outside were talking about her being replaced by someone else. There's something about her experiences in a ALW show that seems to indicate that there wasn't a healthy work environment for her.

Have you seen this pool? It's not your run of the mill in-ground pool. I doubt she spent the full $1 million on the pool, but this didn't come cheap:

I never get why we should love someone who keeps it real or tells it like it is when they’re just complaining about something. Trump tells it like it is too (in his own mind) and I don’t love him. He and Patti just continually sink to whining about everything.

If Patti LuPone says she thinks Muslims should be banned from entering the United States, I wouldn't like her anymore.

Would that pro tip come before or after the pro tip that says "Continuing to whine about something that happened 25 years ago is just a horrible look"?
Look, I get that some people worship her and there is literally no wrong she can do. I'm not one of them. Her 24/7 diva act got old for me a long time ago.
It’s not like she’s calling for press conferences and seeking out interviews to bash ALW. People ask her about it and she gives a truthful answer. I highly doubt she dwells about the situation, but being constantly asked about it in the press could easily open up an old wound. Being fired from any job can be extremely humiliating. Something that many don’t fully get over. I’m sure she is mostly over it, but people keep asking and it clearly sparks old feelings about the situation. She was fired on a grand scale with the world watching. Something traumatic like that can feel brand new even many years later.
I don’t blame him to replace her. GC is a better fit. Tall and Hollywood looking. Patti is short and new yorkerish. Don’t know what other issues were his concern. He’s a public figure so it would be hard to win it. Besides addictions don’t have same stigma
If he wanted to replace her, fine. It’s his show. But the way he went about it was completely tacky.
