tap into his full potential? He is on the stage for 2 hours! if you cannot deliver with 800 lines and 6 songs i think there is not much else you can do to impress people.
Judi Dench was on the screen for what 6 min and got an oscar..come on now..

I, unfortunately, never got to see him as Gabe in Next to Normal, so I don't think my opinion on whether or not he deserved a Tony nom for that role really matters, but I DID see him in Catch Me and I thought he was absolutely incredible. I'm not a "crazy obsessed fangirl" and I'm not freaking out that he didn't get nominated, but I think he deserved it. Even if you didn't like the show, or his character, or the songs, or whatever, you cannot deny the fact that he is amazingly talented and how inspiring it is about how hard he worked for that role. I wasn't really surprised when he didn't get nominated, though, after all of the negative opening-night reviews. Even though Aaron didn't get nominated, everyone should be ecstatic about Norbert's nomination, and all of the other nominations for the show. Being nominated at all is incredible and I'm happy for all of them.

Although I enjoyed his performance, I did not see it as Tony nom worthy. Yes, he was onstage for 90% of the show and his energy and enthusiasm was everlasting, but the role itself wasn't too challenging.

On the other hand, I was THRILLED about Norbert's nom. I thought his portrayal was fabulous =).

Jealous? I ain't jealous. I can take on these fellas whateva.

"As far as I'm concerned, Joshua Henry earned his nomination and therefore didn't take anyone else's spot."

I didn't mean Joshua shouldn't get a nomination, I meant he probably couldn't. I assumed The Scottsboro Boys would get into musical, but wouldn't get much else since it closed so long ago. The only other alternative was Tveit (well not only, but most likely.

For those who thought NEXT TO NORMAL wouldn't have a life outside Broadway, well it's now playing in 4 cities, 9 different countries and has been translated into 6 languages.

It shouldn't matter whether a show is open or not. Why give nominations to something crap but open when you can give it to something quality but closed?

Hence Prisiclla wasn't nominated for Best Musical.

The size of his role has nothing to do with his potential... I just think he needs better direction and material as far as CATCH ME goes. The part is written a bit stiffly and he plays it as such. When he gets the right director, the right show, and the right role (regardless of size), I think we'll see great things from him. But so far, I haven't been blown away.

And therein lies the problem I have with Tveit- he is really unable to bring himself to roles unless the opportunity is handed to him. He will never be able to deliver a stellar performance unless the conditions are absolutely correct- he won't be able to transcend material.

Well said, Kad.

Remember, I like him, but I was disappointed in his Frank. Yes, part of it had to do with the material and part of it had to do with the director -- but lots had to do with his bland white bread portrayal of a very colorful and driven young man.

And I don't really think that Butz deserved a nom -- I felt he was a two dimensional impression of Tom Hanks.

Double post -- oops.

I watched the movie about a week after I saw the musical -- and became even MORE impressed with the acting choices and depth of character for both Hanks and DiCaprio.

I think both Tveit and Wopat absolutely deserved nominations for their terrific performances. If that brings anyone joy, well, so be it.

So if Tveit deserved a nomination, then who didn't? The two guys in "Mormon" are unbelievably fantastic, as was Joshua Henry in "Scottsboro". I haven't seen "Priscilla" but I've heard nothing but praise for Tony Sheldon, even from people who hated the show. And I have not seen "Catch Me", but most people seem to be liking Butz better. So maybe Tveit is giving a fantastic performance (again, I haven't seen the show so I have no idea) but it sounds like these other five gave fanastic performances as well. To me, it just sounds like a brutal year where he (and Daniel Radcliffe for that matter) gave strong performances that just weren't quite up to par with five other extraordinary nominees. That hardly means he was snubbed though.

In my opinion, Aaron should have been nominated. Loved his performance and will definitely be back to see this show again. He has a bright future ahead of him.

Not only did I not find the two Mormon actors unbelievably fantastic, I did not find them fantastic at all. Rannells was completely bland and Gad did irritating shtick in what was a supporting role. Both Radcliffe and Benjamin Walker deserved nominations over these two.

Aaron Tveit is white. That's his vice.
