Anyone else upset about Tveit not receiving a nomination..again? I think he did wonders in NEXT TO NORMAL and he really leads the cast in CATCH ME. I know from interviews how upset Tveit was after not receiving a nomination for his performance as Gabe in NEXT TO NORMAL. I would imagine he is devastated after not being nominated today for CATCH ME.
I am not trying to troll you, but for the life of me I can't understand why anyone would think he should be nominated for N2N. N2N was/is a beautifully powerful show, but in the list of the nominatable performances, his Gabe doesn't even crack the top three. And whining to the press about not getting nominated? Get over yourself, Aaron.
I don't think Aaron deserved a nomination for Next to Normal and although I haven't seen Catch Me, I am enjoying the fangirls flipping their sh*t all over the internet. It's joyous.

Well I will chime in support of you here. I am not a fangirl and I was not crazy about Next to Normal, but my mother and I both thought he was wonderful in this show and fully deserving of a nomination. I would have placed him in the top three nominations for this year. He actually deserved the nod more than Butz. Unfortunately, I was expecting the snub, so...
And on an aside, it really is quite obnoxious when people announce "I haven't seen the show/performance, but I find it funny/am happy that so-and-so was left out." It is one thing to speak from an area of knowledge from having seen the show and honestly saying it did not appeal, but a completely different matter to speak from total ignorance.
I wasn't saying I was happy he was left out. I haven't seen the show and I hadn't even thought about whether or not he would be nominated. I was merely saying that the reaction is highly amusing, particularly on tumblr (twelve year old girls who are like "zzzOMG aaron tveit and his abs weren't nominated for a tony!!11!!1!). I've heard he is wonderful in the show and I am looking forward to seeing it.

He didn't get nominated. It happens. I agree with IAmyownMUSICAL. I don't find him to be the great at all, and I don't get what the attraction is. Best actor was a very strong category, and as a result, actors you think deserve a nomination just might not get it. It happened with Radcliffe and I'm my happy about it, but that's just the way it goes. The category is too strong and only has so many nominees.

I'll admit that Aaron worked his butt of in Catch Me if You Can, but at the end of the day, his performance did absolutely nothing for me. I liked him much better in Next to Normal. Updated On: 5/4/11 at 01:58 PM
I am a fan of his and think he is doing very good work in Catch Me, certainly deserving of a nomination, so it is, to me, a shame he wasn't recognized. I also think he should've been nominated for next to normal. His day will come, though. He's only at the beginning of a very bright career.

I wish he was nominated for "Catch Me." He was very, very good - I especially liked the scene of him on the payphone when he called Norbert and told him to look at outside and see the snow.
The only reason I thought he would be nominated was because I didn't think Joshua Henry and Benjamin Walker could be nominated, but since Henry was nominated he took his spot. In regards to Next to Normal I thought he would be swept up in the nominations, but I guess not.
For those who thought NEXT TO NORMAL wouldn't have a life outside Broadway, well it's now playing in 4 cities, 9 different countries and has been translated into 6 languages.

Ugh, this is frustrating. I thought he was brilliant both nights I went to see the show. Granted, the role wasn't as good as Gabe, but I don't hold shows to n2n's standard.
But he was boring. And I went in liking him very much as a performer -- not so much now.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I enjoyed the show and I enjoyed his performance. Whether he deserved a nomination or not I don't know, of the nominated performers I only saw Norbet and Joshua Henry, who absolutely deserve their spots. I think there was a certain amount of expectation heaped on him for this role and for the awards season. It's more a matter of when than if and it'll happen eventually, he's a talented guy. As much as everyone likes the validation and recognition for their work, awards aren't the be all and end all. Shhh, don't tell the Tony's committee that though!
He most definitely deserved a nomination in Next to Normal. He was great in that show. He was also very good in Saved. Here, I feel he was hampered by bad material. He is a talented actor, and I sympathize with the disappointment he must feel now.
I'm thinking of Brantley's thoughts if, say ten/twelve years ago (remember he was Fyiero only eight years ago) Norbert had played Frank in Catch Me. Imagine what someone of that caliber would have done with the role. Aaron was merely "very good" where a comic/leading actor of that ilk would have thrown a spark into that role. That was my problem with Bundy in "Legally Blonde". She did everything right, but was missing that certain something. I hear the girl who did it in London actually had that spark, which is probably why the show is so much more a hit there than there.
I think Tveit is incredibly talented, but he has yet to tap into his full potential. In my opinion, he didn't deserve a nomination for either CATCH ME or NEXT TO NORMAL. He's kinda bland, which is the last thing an actor playing Frank Abagnale should be.
Again, I like him, but (for me) he hasn't given that star-is-born performance yet.
I was not very surprised to not see him not nominated. Sure I wanted him to be, but after reading the reviews when CATCH ME opened I figured that Norbert was going to get a nom over Aaron (and Norbert deserves every bit of it.)
The real snub here came in the form of DANIEL RADCLIFFE. THAT I did NOT see coming.
