Aaron Tveit to play Chris in Miss Saigon?

Hey so I'm just wondering... They have release more casting for Miss Saigon on Broadway  and still no mention of Chris casting... Any thought that Aaron Tveit MAY actually be Chris. He did say on a Broadway.com interview a couple weeks ago when asked when he'd be back "maybe next year"

Thoughts? Or Thought on who will play Chris

I would absolutely loves this casting. Saw the filmed performance last week and was not super impressed with the actor playing Chris.

Not a chance in hell that Tveit will be doing it.  He's 10 years too old for the role.

omg I literally was wondering the same thing last week when I saw he sang "Why God Why" at at Elsie Fest... seems a random song choice if he's not slated to play the role! He sure has the look! How busy is he with TV lately?

There hasn't been any word about if braindead is getting renewed but it seems a prime candidate for euthanasia at the moment.

He'd be 33 by the time the show opens on Broadway. Will Chase was 31 when he played the role when the original production closed.

MinnieFay- Is he really though? Mandy Gonzalez played an 18-year-old Nina at 30... people in their 30s play teens and college kids on TV and I feel like the stage is much more forgiving than high-definition TV!

Not that he's a huge star by any means. but I would think he'd be too expensive at this point. I think he'd do a great piece he believed in for cheap like the Menier Assassins, but a big commercial show in a kind of a dud roll? I would imagine they'd get any Fieyro replacement for a third of the price.

It's the first Broadway revival of one of the longest running shows which is also highly acclaimed. The score and material is challenging. I don't see 1 reason for anyone to turn this down. Aaron is not too big for it. Plus they need more Broadway names since Engineer and Kim have already been claimed by (really good) non-Broadway actors.

The two names that have been rumored recently are Tveit and Jeremy Jordan. Both have featured "Why God, Why?" in solo performances, and both would probably have to shuffle other commitments in order to take the role. The fact that the role hasn't been announced yet may be due to one or both of them trying to work something out, so maybe there is something to the rumors. Then again, they could announce tomorrow that somebody like Corey Cott has the role, so who really knows?

I doubt he is doing it, but I don't think he is too old for the part. Given that (from the lyrics we learn) he is a sergeant, has already completed one tour of Vietnam, returned home, couldn't find meaning in his life in the states and so "re-upped," I always imagined Chris to be 25 or 26, which would put him around aged 30 by the end of the play. That's also about the age most women who play Ellen are.

Age, maybe. They show simply doesn't need to pay the money he'd charge.  The role has not attracted names, and the "Saigon" brand doesn't need him. Every BFA musical theater program has at least one.  An open call could produce a rising young star.

Around 30 seems to be the typical age of actors playing Chris. Tveit may be at the upper range, but on stage he can easily read a bit younger, unlike the small screen. I wouldn't say his age should work against him. Being a bit better known, on the other hand, may not work in his favor.

The guy in London was awful. Couldn't listen to the recording because of his terrible voice. Will Chase is my all time favorite Chris. Kind of hope they go wth someone with a more rock style voice and not a typical musical theater singer. 

And they did cast "names" when Les Miz came back, so don't see why this would be any different. Would imagine Chris and Ellen would be well-known theater actors.

It would be tough for Jeremy Jordan to juggle filming a TV show in Vancouver with an 8 show week on Broadway.  Supergirl would have to be happy for him to be in only sporadic episodes and Siagon give him enough leave to regularly fly across the country.  Are there examples of actors who did something like that ?

It depends what they want. I'm sure they could get any number of leading men who play the role and get paid scale, thus saving them a ton of money. But, they did get big names for Les Miz - with Ramin, etc. So depends what they want.

Are Will Swenson, Caissie Levy, Nikki M. James, and Andy Mientus really big names? Maybe to the theatre world, but certainly not to the general public. Plus, the most recent Les Miz revival never made a big deal about who was in the show, it was just Les Miz.
