of course they didn't. rent was nowhere near deserving. it will probably lead the pack of nominations at the razzies.
producers i thought would get a best song nomination, but there's no surprise it didn't.

Posted: 1/31/06 at 12:35pmAre you all actually surprised? After the RENT film came out, as disappointed as I was, it was obvious that there were no nominations in store based on critic response. The Producers had a small shot before box office and critic response, but the Golden Globes blew any possible chance for them at all.

Posted: 1/31/06 at 12:41pmI wasn't really expecting RENT to get anything, but I won't pretend I wasn't hoping for it. Not only because I thought they did an amazing job with it but it would be nice to see someone who isn't your typical Hollywooder get nominated. :-/ Oh well.

I appreciate the fans passion for Rent, but I just don't see how anyone can say it deserved any nominations.
Oh well, I am glad you enjoyed it so much. I really wanted to.

I knew that it wouldn't get best picture (even though I would've died of happiness if it did) but I thought that it would get something..

"She clearly looked like she was dancing"
If you look under the Trivia section of The Producers on imdb.com, you will see that Angie Schrower (my favorite Ulla) did the dance sequences for Uma. If Uma's such a great actress, why the hell couldn't she keep a Swedish accent the whole time?

I think that RENT the movie was amazing. I really enjoyed it- and I too was dissapointed that it didn't get any nominations. I just figured the people don't know what they're talking about. Even the reviewers thought the movie sucked- but I completly disagree with what they had to say. I know that the movie could be nothing like the musical live- but I still think that the movie was awesome- Chris Columbus did an amazing job of bringing the show to the big screen.

Posted: 1/31/06 at 1:28pmUma's doing some of the dancing, but it's clearly horribly obvious she isn't doing all of it.

Enjoyable doesn't always equal good.
There have been many threads that have documented the problems with Rent film and there is no need to rehash all that.
I am a big fan of the musical. I have a lot of history with the show, but there comes a point when you have to start looking at things without blinders on and put biases aside. The movie had a lot of flaws, and while it may have had it's enjoyable moments, I personally can't say it was a great film.
The Rent film simply was not up to par to win respected awards. I t's possible that MTV will nominate it for some MTV Movie Awards, but that's about the best anyone should have been expecting/hoping for.

Posted: 1/31/06 at 1:31pmI want to see the producers... but not really you know... It doesn't look to eye catching to me. But I'm sure its awesome as well.

"it will probably lead the pack of nominations at the razzies."
Neither Rent nor the Producers got any Razzie nominations. Neither was Oscar-caliber, though neither was total crap in the way that, say, Gigli was.

Posted: 1/31/06 at 2:24pmI kind of figured that there would not be any nominations but it is still sad ... RENT was still great.

Posted: 1/31/06 at 2:25pmForget the Oscars, I'm surprised they didn't pick up any Razzie noms.

I thought Uma was alot of fun.... not great but fun
I am glad neither got nomintaed because i don't think they deserved it. I think Rent was made with the idea of it being a cash cow. While the Producers was made to capture Nathan and Matthew in action.

For those who really think that Rent deserved "something", I hope you're saying that because you've seen all or most of the movies that came out last year, that were given critical appraise and are now nominated.
If you only saw Rent 525,600 times and nothing else, then of course you think Rent deserved "something".

"If Uma's such a great actress, why the hell couldn't she keep a Swedish accent the whole time?"
Well misto625, Acting is about taking risk. It is what makes an actor better. Nobody is perfect. I thought her Swedish accent was in the entire time. She is a great actress in my opinion, one of the best out there. She takes very unique roles that no other actress would dare to take or be able to capture. Patti's accent was awful on the concert version of sweeney todd but her character was excellent and she is a great actress. Nicole Kidman has not done a perfect american accent and she is an excellent acteress as well. So that really has nothing to do with how good someone is.

Posted: 1/31/06 at 3:57pmI thought that Uma did a less-than spectacular job in The Producers, and this is coming from an Uma fan. I thought she was a good dancer, but now I discover she had a double. Soooo....is it safe to say that I thought she might've been miscast?

i gotta agree with Patronus i am definetly buying the movie the day it comes out.
But there was really nothing award wise to give it reason to get one.
I liked it, but as a translation, wasnt that good.
I think the best Rent and Rosario can hope for is a moon man award.
#44re: Academy Awards - Rent and Producers
Posted: 1/31/06 at 4:57pmI admit that I am a little dissapointed that neither of them got nominated, but what did you expect. Hollywood generally turns their heads at movie musicals. I think Chicago was such a big hit because of all the famous people in it. rent was ust the Original Broadway cast and I didn't even think that The Producers did well enough to recieve a nomination.
#45re: Academy Awards - Rent and Producers
Posted: 1/31/06 at 5:23pmBoth movies just underwhelmed critics and box office, and most civilians have already forgotten it - word of mouth certainly didn't factor - so I'm not surprised at all there was virtually no attention this awards season.

Come on, Uma was awful! She croaked and limped through the songs and acted all cutesy poo through the dialogue scenes.
Well, I hate to be negative, but I do have some Razzie Nomination predicitons.
WORST DIRECTOR: Susan Stroman
WORST SUPPOTING ACTOR: Broderick
WORST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Thruman

I never saw the Producers but never had that urge to go see it. I love the show but putting it back on film again..ehh.
Uma as I saw clips was far from impressive

Before the Producers came out, I was half-hoping that Mel Brooks (being, well MEL BROOKS!) would make fun of those musical-movies where it's obvious that the director put in a new song just so it would win an Oscar... Write something like "This is the Song That Will Win Us the Oscar" or something more creative... If he had been in a more satire mood, I bet it would have at least been nominated...
But I digress, what good movies there were this year were REALLY good-so as much I loved Rent, it didn't deserve anything...
