Has anyone rushed this show? What are the tickets like, or does it vary? Does it pay to arrive when the box office opens?
I have noticed that on Playbill.com it states that your student ID "must verify a current enrollment in a degree or diploma program." Mine is just a simple college ID. I look like my ID, and I am indeed in college right now, but the ID doesn't prove anything except that I have indeed college at some point looking as I do now. I wonder if I will be given a hard time. Should I bring extra proof? I've never (to my great dissapointment - I wanted to see "Come Back Little Sheba" last year) attended a show at this theatre.
Thanks. :)

I don't mean to be snarky but I saw this last night, and it's truly not worth seeing. Of course, it's up to you to form your own opinion but I wouldn't recommend it.
As far as your question, well, I got a comp, as did most of the people around me, so I don't think you'll have a hard time rushing.
I would recommend, should you be willing to spend the extra $3.50, to use the 30 Under 30 program because you will get a better seat (generally best available vs. mezzanine for day-of student rush) and you can get them well in advance.
^ Frog, pardon my ignorance, but I have never heard of this program. Could you point me in the right direction? Does this involve buying 30 tickets for 30 shows? If so, I love the opportunity, but I am afraid I am not financially secure enough to spend that much in one transcation. :)
As far as the show, yes, I've heard that most have not liked it. However, I am very interested. I love DHP, and I love straight plays, and I also tend to quite enjoy pieces that the majority consider to be "outdated." I have also seen unsuccessful productions that few enjoyed that I absolutely was wild over. So, I am willing to take my chances.

You can sign up for 30 under 30 on the MTC website. Basically if you're under the age of 30, you can buy tickets for $30.
MTC has a program where they sell tickets for $30 to patrons age 30 and under. PM your e-mail address and I will forward you their latest e-mail.

I am not a member of 30 under 30, but I rushed the show about a month ago and got second row, center. I got a similar seat when i rushed Top Girls last year.
I got comped to see this...and I still want my money back.
There is no need to get there when the box office opens. You should be able to get great seats wether you use 30 under 30 or student rush.
The book is not brilliant, the cast is alright. The real reason is to go see DHP. He was really good, and had good comedic timing. some of the lines in the show are good, but not all of them.
its a nice light comedy. but also has a bit of depth that makes you think about things. I feel a lot of people miss that when they go see shows that look simple. But I think there is meaning behind it.
enjoy it.

I rushed last Friday, about an hour before the show started and got a seat in the second row center of the mezz. At least half the mezzanine was empty, so I wouldn't expect you to have a problem rushing. Personally, I hated the show, and wouldn't recommend it even at rush prices, but if you really want to see it, go for it.
Almost passed on this after reading the dismal posts here. Am glad we risked it on a whim at the last minute. Myself and my date for the evening thoroughly enjoyed Friday night's performance.
We were in the third or fourth row of the (half empty) Mezz and moved down to the almost entirely full orchestra during intermission.
If it wasn't for the audience's loud and frequent laughs I would have guessed it was only due to lowered expectations after reading this thread.
Definitely not groundbreaking in any way, but for what it was... a quaint, witty, light-hearted, comedic period piece I thought it worked wonderfully.
The material itself is a mixed bag, but the ensemble was delightful overall, the timing was spot on, and DHP was a treat.
Talking to him after the show, he did mention that this evening's audience was particularly lively and that things had picked up considerably this week. Perhaps the cast was feeding off that? If so it's quite a shame with it closing in just a week.
If you've got access to cheap tickets, and are even the slightest fan of Mr. Pierce, I'd say catch it's worth catching before it's over.
To me, this show is just further proof that subscriber based companies like MCC really don't care what they put on stage anymore as long as it's cheap to put up and they get your money. Roundabout is no better, they just REALLY lucked out with a stellar production of GODOT.
I think MTC generally does better work than Roundabout but this season (save for Ruined) was dreadful.
For the record, I found this show consummately enjoyable, although the first act is a little tepid. I loved the actress playing the middle-aged theatre diva.
I thought the show was not unlike a sweet little spurt of whipped cream. Pierce and Kimbrough were wonderful. The parts for the actresses were clearly based on outdated notions, but the audience understands this.
It was a lot of fun. Kimbrough brought out a lot of laughs, and Pierce was consummately in control. It was impossible to lose touch with his character.
This was far from the best thing I've seen, even when considering this season alone, but it was still a lovely way to spend two hours. I am glad I went.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Rudy2.
I thought it was a fun, relaxing way to spend a couple of hours. I'm a sucker for a show in which the actors seem to be having such a good time, and Accent's talented ensemble certainly fits that bill. I'm going to the closing show with a couple of friends next Sunday.
I understand it may not be everyone's cup-o-tea, but I personally found the set beautiful, the story; charming, and Mr. Pierce and company deliciously hard to resist.
^ Awesome. I hope this cast gets a splendid send-off.
I forgot to commend DHP for being absolutely sweet outside. He personalized my poster (I couldn't resist buying it; I love the artwork and his picture on it) and took an awesome picture with me. He did not turn down one autograph or picture request from a crowd which was mostly middle-aged to elderly women all fawning over him. He was so cute sticking his head out the stage door to see what the crowd looked like.

DHP is always very gracious to his fans. He's a lovely gentleman.
Did you buy the poster in the theatre Rudy?
I have a poster (I too love the artwork), but I bought it through Playbill.com along with an opening night Playbill. At the theatre, I thought I saw a sign leading to the downstairs lounge which said something about the MTC Store, but damn if I could find it! All I found was the bar; for which I'm not complaining. And in typical male fashion - I didn't ask for directions.
LOL yeah. I tend to ask for directions quite frequently, but only when time is of the essence. If it is not I like to find my way on my own. But when things call for practicality, I unapologetically ask.
Anyway, I asked the lady at the little booth in the lobby if I could buy a poster and she said to go downstairs during intermission to the bar. At the bar the guy pointed me in the direction of the little "store" they have. It was hidden in the same hallway by the restrooms. There, the same lady who had been upstairs before magically appeared and sold me the poster, which I picked up in the lobby on the way out of the theater. :)

I saw the matinee today and after reading this thread yesterday, I was really not looking forward to seeing it. However, it was much more enjoyable than I'd expected. The show is definitely dated, but I thought the cast brought a lively charm to it. They didn't walk through it, but seemed to have a great time playing off of each other. (Loved the Indian wrestling scene). DHP is so much in control----very good actor. It was not the greatest show I've seen, but I had a good time and that's why I go to the theater.
