Which film/stage actors are also playwrights? I know of some like Woody Allen, Steve Martin, Eric Bogosian, and Tim Blake Nelson, but can anyone recommend more? Have you read any of their plays/how were they?

Harvey Fierstein.
I think he has the distinction of being the only person to win a Tony award in four different categories: Best Play (Torch Song Trilogy), Best Book of A Musical (La Cage aux Folles), Best Actor (Torch Song), Best Actor in a Musical (Hairspray)

Michael Cristofer - wrote THE SHADOW BOX, recently appeared in A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE.
Jason Miller - wrote THAT CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON, played the priest in the movie THE EXORCIST.

Hunter Foster wrote the book for the musical SUMMER OF '42.
Mark Harelik (Sr. Nacarelli in "Light in the Piazza")wrote the play (and the book for the musical version) THE IMMIGRANT.
Debra Monk co-wrote PUMP BOYS & DINETTES and OIL CITY SYMPHONY.
