^ I thought I made clear what constitutes bullying to me. But "personal bad-mouthing of performers for sport" can still be ugly and unmerited, even if you don't want to term it bullying.
iluvtheatertrash, Paying a performer doesn't automatically set them in a class apart where all manner of derogatory posting is OK. We pay lots of professionals (restaurant servers, hotel maids, university professors, doctors and nurses) without the kind of public review we give our broadway actors.
AND..you just proved my point, Troll.

But his post wasn't derogatory. He paid to see a Broadway caliber performance. He came on a site where people share reviews and thoughts on Broadway productions to tell us about his experience. It's only derogatory because it embarrasses Pascal, clearly, that it happened in the first place. Which it should. He is a consumer. Commenting on what he paid for, and what he received in return. That's not bullying. Period.

1. LizzyCurry: AMAZING comment "I tore a muscle rolling my eyes"
2. Sigh - yes this board can be hyper critical but unfortunately for Adam...if he wants to received applause it is a two way street because the tomatoes fly just as easily. We don't hear anyone complaining from the stage that Standing Ovations are too frequently taking place.
3. Adam is not being over dramatic. He is acting! Maybe reaching out for a part in a play.
4. I'm not hiding - that is my zip code in my name and the state I live in.
5. Sorry Adam...I disagree with you. Your job is to perform. Audience job to critque your performance. Although you believe your boss pays your salary...ultimately he forwards the money to you from our ticket admission fees paid. When we don't do our job our boss certainly kicks our ass too.
6. No I suck at memorizing lines so I wouldn't dare to think that I could do your job.
7. No I wouldn't wet myself out of freight standing on stage in front of a large crowd of people.
8. I believe that many professionals boldly proclaim that they don't read reviews, frequent boards or even watch their own performance (if it is available on film or whatever media you want to select).
9. Yes he can vent but he should also be aware it will be critiqued as much if not more than the performance that generated the initial comments.
He's acting like a baby.
He embarrassed himself by going up on his lines and is calling more attention to it.

I don't send for trash, I take it out.
As someone who's posted on this board for nearly a decade (...scary), I've seen my fair share of trolls.
This has nothing to do with the subject matter of this thread but I always enjoy reading input from ljay whose post are always interesting and gramatically correct.
Don't feed him, ljay. They just keep growing if you do.
I agree with you entirely, iluvtheatertrash. "Personal bad-mouthing of performers for sport" wasn't taking place in this situation. If the parties involved were saying that Adam is a lazy **** who barely shows up for the job, sure. But they weren't.
Talk to Bernadette Peters, Laura Benanti, Donna Murphy, Sara Ramirez, Karen Oilvo, and many others who have dealt with much worse on these boards.
I was on Adam's side up until I read that.
He should never have responded.
Unlikely as it may be, I'm finding it worthwhile that BWW will have a conversation like this from time to time. This board should be willing to look at itself and see that we are not innocent bystanders in the great debate about discourse in the public square that is the social media.
1. I'm not holding Winston at fault here. His first post was innocuous though his followup posts were more pointed and belittling: "I vaguely recall reading something somewhere about how Pascal isn't the best when it comes to learning lines...to stop singing when it looks clearly like you're supposed to, doesn't look professional or good. He made himself look like he had no clue as to what he was doing up there."
2. There is certainly a group mentality at work when we get "He's acting like a baby.
He embarrassed himself by going up on his lines and is calling more attention to it.
Juvenile."
3. If Kad and others want the word bully banned from use here, fine. But the petty offensive personal belittling of performers on here is rampant and I think there is a time to condemn some of it, even if Adam Pascal didn't do so in a way that pleases the folks here.

That is a hyperbolic assessment of what I, iluvtheatertrash, and others have been arguing here and you know it.

HAHa and i am a troll because? Giving you people the link to this thread? HAHA don't make me laugh. Its hysterical how people on here have some vendetta against me ..truly Hilarious.
Maybe he'll become the next Amy Bouzaglo.
That would be fun.
Sorry Kad, I didn't intend hyperbole. Each time I mentioned bullying in earlier posts you and iluvtheatertrash said I can't compare what's going on here to outright bullying that scars folks for life. I'm allowing your point.

No, that was my honest reaction to his childish facebook post.
Oy. This Pascal character is a joke. This isn't the first time he's bitched about BWW, ATC, et al, either.
I was not at the performance. I didn't read the criticism of him. But, the "How 'bout YOU try doing 8 shows a week?" stuff is crap. That's your job, as much as the usher's job is to help the audience in the theater and give out programs. It's hard, but so are many other jobs in the universe.
And if you don't LIKE chat/message forums, don't visit them! I doubt Bernadette does.
Pascal, forgive me, is a hack. And before the internet, BWW, et al were invented, people were gossiping as much as they do now.
One more time-- oy.
I believe bullying- actual, legitimate bullying- DOES go on here.
But in this situation? No.
Winston et al. posted less than flattering opinions of Pascal. That is not up for debate. It was not vicious, it was not chronic, it was not bullying.
Pascal responded in a thoroughly over-the-top manner- equaling and perhaps surpassing the perceived slight by hurling out generalizations and barbs of his own. It wasn't merely "defending himself." It lacked class and tact.
By repeatedly invoking "bullying," Pascal is watering down the word. He's applying his situation- which seems to me like nothing more than an ego bruised by some unflattering opinions- to a truly damaging phenomenon that ruins or destroys lives. And he isn't the only one to do this.
I agree with every word Kad just posted.
New item on the Carnegie Deli menu... the Pascal Facebook Meltdown. Lots of baloney with a splatter of mediocre cheese.
Instead of Adam Pascal going off on facebook, he should be studying his lines for the show maybe next time he wont f#Ck Up and people wont complain. He gets paid more money then probably half of us get paid in a week, so if he were really professional, he would just shut up and remember his lines every night.
Bravo, Kad, in every post in this thread. I agree whole-heartedly.

I've said many a time, long before this Adam Pascal fracas, that Broadway performers almost never do themselves any favors when taking to the internet to complain about something. Note that I'm not saying they don't have a right to do so, but just that it almost never paints them in a positive light. This incident is no exception.

Phyllis, if Adam had done his complaining in an adult, and much more eloquent manner, I would take no issue with what he said. However, because Adam ends up being the bigger bully, it is hard to respect any true points he might actually make in the rest of his post.
