As a subscriber to the Ahmanson in LA I wasn't all that impressed with their artistic decision to have this Riverdance-like production as part of their upcoming season . The production entitled, if I'm not mistaken, Hearbeat Of Home seemed like a total snooze fest and not up to parr with the quality of shows that should be booked into that big theater. I can only hope that with this production just announcing a delay (I'm sure many savvy subscribers opted out of this one) CTG can produce or book a great show in its place.
With A Trip To Bountiful, Cinderella (please get some inspired casting) and Matilda, the season seems pretty good - although not sure why all of the better tours have chosen to go to The Pantages...CTG use this opportunity to bring an exciting work to your stage. Isn't there something on Broadway that would make sense for a transfer?

A lot of subscriber series' seems like they're having trouble booking solid, traditional theatrical entertainments (or perhaps the demand really is that watered down). My local market, which used to be one of the first stops for first nationals and even out-of-town tryouts, has not hosted several first nationals and pre-B'way engagements that we'd normally see and has filled their season with non-traditional fare. It's hard to rationalize buying a subscription for a season that's filled with "special theatrical events" and very little, legitimate "theatre."
I'm a Pantges Theatre subscriber & I'm happy that I won't have to go to the Ahmanson a lot this upcoming season. I'm only going to see Trip to Bountiful, Cinderella, & Matilda.
Greens greens - you bring up a salient point about the economics of Touring and the current state of affairs with subscription based theater.
Recent memory, I can't think of any of these "special theatrical events" that have interested me
Hoping that CTG can seize the day here and either transfer a current Broadway show, or heck, transfer The Pajama Game from the West End or produce something substantive to what is an ok theatrical season.
Christopher Plummer's brilliant one man show directed by Des McAnuff - A Word Or Two was a "special theatrical event" that was one of the best things I've ever seen. I stand corrected.
I have seen plays that were big enough to fill the Ahmanson, but I shouldn't think BOUNTIFUL would be one of them!
BOUNTIFUL has a pretty extraordinary cast so I'd imagine that will not only help sell individual tickets but help ensure folks like me renew their subscriptions
20 years ago I enjoyed shows like "STOMP" and "Tap Dogs", but have not seen non-book shows of equal quality lately. Detroit booked a magic act this year, so we will see...
Vernon, I'm not doubting BOUNTIFUL will sell, just that I'd rather see that play in a more intimate house.
On the other hand, even the old barn-like Ahmanson worked well enough for ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE.

I have a suggestion. Nathan Lane and Rachel York in Plaza Suite. Or something like that.
I saw Porgy and Bess last night. The show was so slow and boring. I've noticed that the Ahmanson doesn't really get good touring productions, but get Pantages' leftovers. Bad enough the show was boring but the audience was just horrible they were talking the whole time & a lady's phone went off during the end.. so rude.
I can't bring myself to see that Porgy & Bess production - not after I heard the way in which they bastardized that score on the cast recording. Yes, I know, with the Gershwin estate's consent. I wish LA Opera would revive their 2007 production. Now THAT was the way to see and hear Porgy & Bess.
BTW, i think everyone's forgetting one other highlight of the Ahmanson season -- the return engagement of Dame Edna on her farewell tour. So excited to catch Humphries once more. Saw Edna being interviewed recently and she was still as sharp and quick as ever.
Hey LA folks - been a long time since I've used Hot Tix. For productions at the Ahmason are all of the Hot Tix in the balcony or does it vary by production?
I think usually they're box seats.
Sometimes box seats. More often balcony.
I used to get hottix to Follies and then move down to the Mezz.
Thanks, guys. How's the view from the box seats? I've only sat in the orchestra and the balcony. The balcony's so high up you might as well be watching from a monitor.
Follies hot tix for me was front row off to the side, really great tixs.
I saw Curtains from box seats (with Hottix) and they weren't too bad. We missed a bit of the stage on the side we were on, but the view was pretty good.
Bountiful played a big house on Broadway. Home to "Beautiful" now. I think it would be fine there.
Stephen Sondheim Theatre's capacity is 1,055, The Ahmanson's is 2,000. Slight difference, I'd say. The balcony's also REALLY high at the Ahmanson. I'm checking for Blithe Spirit, anyway. Thanks, all!
Bountiful was the most successful non musical in the theaters history, well done to all involved.
Wonder if that new record will be broken with Blithe in the next couple of months
Ugh. While I'm happy for CTG and for the cast and producers of Bountiful, that will only encourage CTG to put more plays in that barn. I wish they had a medium sized theatre inbetween the size of the Mark Taper and the Ahamanson for straight plays with big draws - a 1-1,200 seat house. LA should build that instead of building a whole new LACMA. I'm fine with the current LACMA. Ha.
That's great news about BOUNTIFUL being the highest grossing non musical at The Ahmanson. It was a terrific night of theater.
Looking forward to seeing BLITHE SPIRIT. Caught it on Broadway and enjoyed it - although Angela's part is really a supporting one.
