I saw her in Sunset Blvd as Betty 4 times...the most uninteresting person on the stage...I would get so bored everytime she opened her mouth. I saw it again with Siohban Dillon in the "reboot" in 2017 and found her to be wonderful and not boring. I loved Alice in SideSHow but I find her screeeeehy and over dramatic in just about everything else....(look on you tube for her in Carrie she is awful) her voice to me is just not pleasant alone(without Emily to tone it down) ..
Having just rewatched her on youtube doing As if we never said Goodbye....I can say she basically screams and scream without any softness at all to her voice...again I am not a fan
I'm not concerned about her vocals. As others have said, even diminished, her instrument is stronger than Glenn Close's. She is always a dynamic performer - however -Ripley is often prone to making....well, strange choices when she takes on familiar roles. Hopefully she has a strong director who offers firm guidance (and hopefully she takes it).
We can already see her perform/'audition'(?) for the role here.

Personally, I like it.
I’m just trying to figure out how the hell to get there from Manhattan.
you would need a car. You can fly into Logan or take the train and rent a car. The theatre is in the round so that will be an interesting directing choice. Not sure how they will do the staircase but they do have the center that goes down. They used that for Mame for her Moon number.

Since it seems to get asked anytime a star or semi-recognizable name does a show out of town, when is this transferring?
(No, I don't believe that any sane person would think that a producer is eyeing a North Shore Music Theatre production for a transfer, but this is BWW after all)
One of the regrettable things about the Glenn Close revival was that yes the chances of a transfer for anyone else is now basically none. This is a show that we could have had interesting performances from Donna Murphy (roundabout reading), Alice Ripley, Bernadette Peters etc. but it'll never happen now. Sad.
I've seen Alice twice in cabarets in Ptown post N2N. Her voice was lovely, soft and powerful. It had healed and she sounded tremendous. I think she often pushes into that rock voice for shows, possibly at the advice of a director or music director. When she isn't pushing she sounds sublime.
I'd kill to see her do this. She's actually the right age for Norma. Contrary to previous casting, Norma isn't geriatric. She has the primal acting chops to deliver a performance that will at least be interesting. I think she will be splendid. Those who see her are lucky.

Her phrasing and pacing make her sound like she's on quaaludes.
I think this is a great choice for classic stage company to do. I’d love to see a super stripped back version. The music is gorgeous. I’d love just a piano and strings. And an elegant one unit set.
