I don't get how she was supposedly "disrespectful of the other nominees."
Unless because she didn't do the faux-humble thing of saying she didn't deserve the award.

Wait, what?
Wait, what?

I think he actually did hurt his leg. He came down on it & then he grabbed it like he was in pain.

But then Alice give him a sip of her cocktail and he instantly felt better!

So that's why her speech was the way it was. She was under medicated!

Alice's speech was interesting..but that said it was the only acceptance speech i truly watched..i tend to be a channel flipper during those.
but then again does anyone remember the craziness that was Mark Rylance's acceptance speech at last years awards?

I don't know if I would call reciting a poem from memory as craziness.

I remember the one time I saw Next To Normal and it just ended up that I was the last person Ripley signed and talked to. After telling her that I had been able to relate a little too well to what was going on onstage she and I got into a pretty long conversation. Granted it was just the two of us there considering that everyone else she had signed for had left. She got told by the stage door guy that her car was waiting for her and still told them to wait a few min while she wraped things up with me. That just goes to show you what a nice person she is and I do get the impression that she really does care about the fans and about those who are seeing the show.
With that said, I too thought that at first glance Alice was being a bit crazy etc. But, then after watching it again, I am in the same camp with those who suggest that it was more of an emotional thing then anything else. I do love her performance and I am very happy that she won and would have been upset if she didn't.
I think it was over excitment and not just screaming that made her speech sound louder then it really was.

I just remember her reading some meaningful quote (as one does) and suddenly yelling at us. I busted out laughing. I love Ripley and I think she's incredibly talented and her award is well-deserved, but that speech was quite bizarre and funny. I've a feeling she's probably having a laugh over it today as well.

Considering the speech is rife for parody, I'm just sad that video is entirely unfunny.

It's a bunch of stoned idiots yelling.

Oh, Alice.
All I'll say about her speech was it was absolutely insane. She certainly got her message across and is a gorgeous woman, a great talent, and just a wonderful spirit.
She doesn't need to stoop so low as to responding to the people who are making fun of her speech. Why can't she just be thankful that she won a F*CKING TONY AWARD?! I mean, the Facebook statuses again? You just won a Tony, Alice. Screw the dissenters. Enjoy the moment and don't even acknowledge them. What's the point?
That is all from me.

according to what Alice posted on her Facebook she started yelling because she couldn't hear what other people had been saying from the mic on that side of the stage and she wanted the people in the first few rows to be able to hear her.
she's crazy but that is exactly why I love her

You Arrogant jerks.
This is what Alice had to say about Via Facebook.
1. NON-BELIEVERS NEED NOT APPLY TO MY ROUTINE ABOUT ART. 2. I WILL NOT BE KEPT NEATLY INSIDE A BOX THAT'S COMFORTABLE FOR EVERYONE. 3. I YELLED MY ACCEPTANCE SPEECH LAST NIGHT BECAUSE I HAD BEEN SITTING TWO ROWS FROM THE PODIUM DURING THE ENTIRE SHOW AND I COULDN'T HEAR THE PEOPLE SPEAKING INTO THE STAGE LEFT MIC. SO I FIGURED I'D BRING THE HOUSE DOWN. 4. I GUESS IT WORKED. 5. I HAD A BLAST! 6. THIS IS NOT AN APOLOGY, NOR AN EXPLANTION, BUT INSTEAD, IT IS SIMPLY A LIST.

Replace all instances of the words "Alice Ripley" with "Idina Menzel" and this thread would be completely different.
I guess I'll never understand why the same rabid reaction to two different performers is OK for one, but not the other.

Now I totally believe that Ms. Ripley posted in her facebook the comment that I should "die" because I posted a thread on here about her sometimes faulty pitch. Whatever, she deserved her Tony. But she's a bit looney. But then aren't we all!
One more thing: When I mentioned her pitch issues, several posters defended them by saying she was a "raw talent" so I found it amusing that she mentioned having a BFA since that means she had training and therefore was not "raw" but actually was rigorously trained as an artist.

Alice's speech needs to be incorporated into the next instance of Forbidden Broadway. It was a classic!
