So who was playing Russell (the Billy Crudup role in the movie / Colin Donnell in San Diego)? John Gallagher Jr or someone else?

Looks like nearly everyone else from San Diego was there.

I know there's been a lot of talk about Almost Famous, but has anyone heard anything about Sing Street? I heard one of the songs from the cast album on Broadway Sirius the other day and it reminded me how much I enjoy the cast album and want to see the show.

Their website still says end of 2021/2022 but one website says it starts on April 20th.
I think if they are smart, Almost Famous will start in the Fall. There are a ton of shows for the 21-22 season, I don't even think there's a theater available. Obviously, things fail and things can change though.

Every time this thread is updated I'm hoping it's about Sing Street.

Honestly, same. I really fell in love with the cast album during quarantine and so want to see the show.

If ALMOST FAMOUS is working with the Shuberts as rumored, the Belasco, Golden, Longacre, Booth, and possibly Broadhurst should all be available this spring. Broadhurst, Belasco, and Longacre are ideal for any midsized musical, but it will probably all depend on when current tenants announce closing dates.
GIRL and THOUGHTS could announce closing any day now (probably for earlier than January). I wouldn't expect JAGGED to announce until after Thanksgiving (unless it's putting up a fight this winter). DIANA prob wouldn't announce until December at the earliest, more likely sometime in January. Lots of "if"s.

Slave Play is playing until January 23rd at the AW and then Funny Girl as someone else already mentioned.

I like the idea of Almost Famous at the Booth; it would be a nice "welcome back" moment for Tom Kitt, whose magnum opus Next to Normal played there - he's composing this one as well.

I have to imagine AF needs something a little bigger than the Booth, otherwise they would have announced already since it has no tenant past January 2.

Funny Girl"
Right… I knew I was forgetting something big. *palm
to the head*
Since that’s the case, I see Almost Famous ending up at the Longacre, not to predict the demise of Diana(it’s inevitable). I concur that Almost Famous should wait until fall 2022. Let Diana run it’s course through august, then they starts previews next September/October. Just seems sensible to me.

Re: DIANA, it's telling that the 15 dates on TDF include post-opening performances...they know raves aren't gonna happen.
