Am I the only one who likes to see what playbills people are holding when shows let out?

Posted: 11/11/08 at 4:23pmWhen shows let out and everyone who is leaving the theatre is now in Times Square or are on the subway I noticed that I like to see what shows they are seeing via the playblls. I just get curious as to what shows people are seeing. Am I the only one?

Posted: 11/11/08 at 4:25pmI do that too. Hotel lobbies, elevators and late night restaurants are also fun places.

Posted: 11/11/08 at 4:25pmNope. I do the same thing. It's interesting to see their reactions to various shows. Are they still excited about what they've seen or do they look totally bored? It tells a lot more about the show than anything written by the critics!

Posted: 11/11/08 at 4:27pmI love looking around at the Train Station and seeing everyone's playbills, maybe sparking up a conversation. Non-creepily as possible.

I once got an enthusiastic thumbs up from a guy in the elevator in the 168th Street station from a guy who was a big "Passing Strange" fan and had spotted the Playbill in my hand.

Posted: 11/11/08 at 4:33pmI hate when people curl their Playbills walking down the street so I cannot see what show is on the cover.

I was on the subway and next to me were two older ladies going through the Spelling Bee playbill.I bent my head so I could see what show they saw. They were convinced that the audience members were cast members. Pointing to the understudy pics and saying that that was the person they saw. When I leaned over and told them they were actual audience members, they got all mad or something, but refused to look at me and put the playbill away.
I think they may have been tourists who were told not to speak to New Yorkers. i dont know...

Posted: 11/11/08 at 4:47pmI remember being on the LIRR going home one night and I saw a girl with a Saved playbill. Knowing that it was a show that I had wanted to see (I did see it 4 times and loved it) I wanted to know what she thought about it. It was a great conversation starter as was a young girl around my age who was on the train reading an Equus playbill.

Posted: 11/11/08 at 4:48pmI notice the opposite a lot too---when I'm riding the subway home reading my playbill, I noticed people pointing at my playbill and whispering to each other.

I often will eavesdrop to hear what they are saying about it and then try to guess what they've seen before peaking at it. I've started many a conversation over it.
Particularly if it is a show I have NOT seen.

Posted: 11/11/08 at 4:58pmshh282, I do the same thing too. There have been times where I would pace up and down the subway moving my neck in different positions trying to catch a glance of what the show on the cover is.

Posted: 11/11/08 at 5:48pmI sort of like doing this too. Actually, I was looking at my Xanadu playbill in Penn Station once, and some lady asked me if I had just seen it and if I enjoyed it. She then told me that she saw Gypsy.
