This is such a great interiew of the Broadway Star, Pre-Rock Of Ages-Departure. Amy is adorable:
Question: Do you remember what your first night on Broadway was like?
Spanger: It's so funny because I was in the ensemble at that time. I remember there was a moment when Betty Buckley has this solo, and everyone's onstage. The entire company was onstage. I remember looking out into the audience and thinking, "I'm gonna do what she's doing!" [Laughs.] I remember thinking, "I'm gonna get out of the chorus really soon and start playing parts." I've never talked about that before with anybody. But I was very specific. I was like, "Oh yeah, that's comin'!" [Laughs.]

I was lucky enough to see Amy on her Broadway debut!

When is it coming? I'm still waiting.

She starred in Rock of Ages; The Wedding Singer(2006 Drama Desk Award Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical); Urinetown; Kiss Me, Kate; Chicago; Sunset Blvd. and Tick Tick Boom!
She was the best Roxie with PERHAPS the exception of Sandy Duncan.
And she would have that Tony were she to continue with FEELING ELECTRIC/N2N undoubtedly. I prefer her take (and Sherie's) on the role to Ripley's, for whatever that's worth.
And REEFER MADNESS speaks for itself.
The woman is FIERCE, her questionable absences not withstanding.

I have been in love with Amy Spanger since seeing her in Kiss Me Kate. I feel really bad for her since after the Rock of Ages firing/"mutual departure," her Broadway career is probably pretty much done with. She had a great run though.

I wish she had continued with Wicked, too!

Didn't Spanger and Hall split up way before he married his "Dexter" sister?
She was in the workshop of most successful show on Broadway? I had no clue, then she gave up a hit-show like Rock of Ages and she wasn't able to re-create the role she originated in Feeling Electric Off Bway that eventually won Alice Ripley her Tony? Wow, poor Amy.
Anyways, she's had a great career on Broadway and hopefully it will continue "on and on, and on"!
I feel like she got her "shining star moment" at the Tonys with her entrance in the great number of Rock of Ages that night.

Yes. They divorced in 2006 and actually separated long before that.

Only to her diehard fans like you. I don't remember her at all. From this year's Tony Awards opening number I only remember Liza, Stockard Channing and then the cast from HAIR. That's it.

Not the opening, her entrance in the Rock of Ages number. Youtube it.
I dont think that was much of an entrance, especially since she probably knew she was out of the show soon anyhow. Constantine got the opening of the song which is the best part.
Since they made a joke about her at the last BC/EFA Easter Bonnet competition regarding her attendance, I don't know if she will ever reach her stage potential. She is likely to be another Charlotte D'Amboise-a really talented performer who never truly got her breakout role. I like Amy, but not sure what is next.
