An American In Paris Closing

I did. They've been performing every single night to a half empty audience. While $600k a week isn't bad for most Bway shows, the Palace is giant and AAIP just isn't selling well. I'm honestly surprised they aren't closing Labor Day.

They should just lift the theatre now...

I know it's been mentioned that Frozen could take the St. James Theatre, but I wonder if will end up taking the Palace Theatre in 2018.

How long will the (extensive) renovations take? The theater may not be ready by then

Wow seems like the 2014-15 season didn't really have a long running hit. The Vist, Fun Home and An American in Paris have all closed or are closing. I doubt Something Rotten will last longer than January 1st 2017.

I've been really upset at all of these closing notices ever since Matilda. I give Something Rotten a few more months.

Wow, lots of shows getting the ax around the same time. Very sad.

Damn, no show is safe (except you know, the obvious ones). The season will be a busy one for sure

Things are pretty rough right now it seems...

Sad but expected. Though I heard the Nederlanders are further from the lifting undertaking than anticipated... They probably thought the show would last longer when they made the plans

Palace renovations are expected to take three years...

Frozen in the New Am, Aladdin to move to another Nederland theater.
Disney has always produced in a Nederland theater.

Not this time. The horse has been beaten 100x times. We know where it is going.

I'm most surprised the show will last until January 1, 2017.

I know I'm one of the few on here, but I absolutely love the show and am heartbroken that it's closing.

I agree. I feel like they may end up closing a little earlier. Cast members will start leaving, and their current stars are also leaving to do the tour. Bet they wished they had waited to build that brand new tour set...

I love this show and am very sad to see it close. It's such a beautiful show and I will sorely miss it.

I loved it too--much more than I expected to. I've long been a fan of Wheeldon but I hope he returns to direct a musical soon.

Wheeldon didn't "direct" this show. He had a team of people fly over to Paris to help him get the show together, who are uncredited. His choreo is stunning, but he has a ways to go before he will be trusted to direct again.
