This user/show needs to be reported. Have you already sent this individual money? They've committed a pretty serious crime, that isn't petty theft.

He didn't commit a "crime" - it was just morally wrong - I was selling two tickets to "Dreams of Flying..." for $30 total for the show tonight - said if anyone is interested to email me directly.
Got an email from a guy named Ben Yellin. Not sure who he is on the board since he emailed me and didn't respond on here (which is what I asked). Seemed like a normal guy. Even said he hopes my wife is ok - the reason she couldn't go is because she was in the hospital getting a stent put in for kidney stones yesterday - so I wanted to sell the tickets....
Said he'd meet me at the theatre at 7:15pm and just never showed.
So basically I took a train 45 mins to the theater, waited there from 7-8pm all for nothing. And then lost the opportunity to sell the tickets.

Posted: 10/2/11 at 12:08amOh. I think there was a bit of ambiguity and some people (including myself) thought that you meant you bought 'fake tickets' off someone here..

HB - Sorry, I misunderstood, I thought you had sent him money. What he did was not criminal but horribly immoral. If you have the email address you still may be able to send it to BWW/they could probably link it to a user name and maybe find this individual's name and ban him.
I feel so badly that this happened to you.

This thread had such potential. I was hoping to find a debate about "selling out" with people making dated references to Benny from Rent.

Posted: 10/2/11 at 7:44amIf this is the first time this has happened to you in your life, consider yourself very lucky. I would also avoid selling on Craigslist. These types, "be back people" are very common there also. It's the times we live in. A person's word means nothing today. Reporting it to Rob, etc. is just a waste of your time. The guy was a prick, but what are they going to do to him? Nothing.

Posted: 10/2/11 at 8:58amI'm sorry for your wasted time, but someone not showing up to buy your tickets is probably not grounds for membership termination around here. This might just have to be chalked up to living and learning.

Don't bother contacting Rob or Craig, this isn't BWW's problem. If you posted your email address on the site, it could have been any random lurker on the internet who contacted you, not necessarily a board member. And honestly, I think calling it "morally wrong" is a bit silly when you don't know why he didn't show.
Email him and ask what happened before broadcasting it here. No money was exchanged and the show isn't exactly Book of Mormon- it was a waste of your time and nothing more. I save "morally wrong" for things like the death penalty and stealing from the disabled and elderly- not backing out on a ticket sale.

Okay, I'll be the jerk:
Your wife is in the hospital for major surgery, but you spent 2 and a half hours on trains and waiting in front of the theater to save $30 less train fare? That's roughly minimum wage.
I realize everyone's financial situation is different (we're all unemployed in my house) and I'm sorry your time was wasted. But I think your wife's recovery is probably the more important issue here.

Gaveston,
You completely missed the point. My wife was in the hospital the day BEFORE. She was home resting. I have an unlimited metrocard, so there was no new train fare - I had two tickets and wanted to sell them. It was the fact that it was a big waste of time all because someone emailed me saying they wanted to buy the tickets and then just never showed up. You just don't do that.
And yes, everyone's financial situation is different.

definition of morals - . A person's standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do.
That jerk was definitely morally wrong. Not the end of the world, but totally inconsiderate. If there was a good reason for the jerk to stand you up, he would have emailed you with an explanation. . Just an immoral A-hole.

Karma's a bitch, and I'm sure he'll get his. This very likely isn't a one-time incident, and at some point someone will deny him something, whether it be a job or something else he wants, because he'll be perceived as a flake (someone who doesn't follow through). His behavior will get the best of him, and he will lose out on many things.
I wouldn't sweat it. You're out $30 bucks. But unless he changes his ways, he could be out a whole lot more as life rolls along.

Posted: 10/2/11 at 5:50pmIf you still have the tickets you should ask about past dating them for another time. I've never had a problem doing that before if I have to miss a show (assuming it's not like BOOK OF MORMON where there are never any empty seats).

HB, I did not miss the point. I agree the guy who said he would buy your tix and then stood you up is a bastard. That isn't something it would ever occur to me to do (except in a life or death emergency, in which case I would mail you the money anyway).
MY point, however, was one of perspective: it's the day after major surgery and you still have a wife. $30 (no discount for train fare) is small stuff by comparison. I should hope.
BTW, you still haven't mentioned how your wife is doing. I hope she is well.
