Very excited for this! If you're going, let us know how it is!!
Are they doing rush for the show at all?
I will be there tonight.
Just to confirm what I've heard...this is 90 minutes no intermission, right?
1hr45, with an intermission. At least that's how it was at the invited dress.
Thanks MiracleElixir! I thought it was weird that this would be that short.

I'd like to go tonight. Do they have rush?

I called the theatre this afternoon and they said they didn't have a rush or lotto right now but they should know next week.
I'm SO excited for this!
Box office today told me today no rush, no student rush, no lottery, no standing room will be done for this show. Glad they're selling so well...

I just called the theatre and they said no rush, no lottery till possibly after opening if at all
Standing room when they sell out after opening
Jordan, I thought the same thing, and then I walked by TKTS and saw it up for tonight for 50% off. Not necessarily indicative of anything, but weird.
The box office guy told me they hadn't decided one way or the other on lotto.
I was actually being sarcastic lol
The guy at the theater made it sound like the decision for all had already been made, so who knows.
Back home after tonight's performance. I was in the mezz which was VERY empty; rows and rows of empty seats, so I have no clue why this wasn't on tdf.
I guess I don't have much to say about this one. The actors certainly were all well-trained, excellent dancers, and some of the choreography was exciting, but mostly I didn't emotionally connect with the piece. It left me a little cold and a little bored.
I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. The numbers were mostly very brief, and by the end of the end of evening they all just blurred together. Ultimately, it was just kind of there for me.
I can try to answer any questions, but these are my initial thoughts.

I loved this show! The dancing was truly amazing and the big band orchestrations were incredible. Of course, Frank's wonderful voice - what more do you need! Having seen all of Twyla's shows, I would say this one is definitely the best. Highly recommend to all !!
SHILL ALERT.
SHILL ALERT
!!!!!
I'm with Whizzer. Dull, dull, dull. I can appreciate dancing, but watching dancers run around a static set to recordings of Frank Sinatra tunes doesn't exactly make for compelling theatre.
The cast is very talented, but I can't really imagine many people connecting to this on any level. Nothing to grasp onto emotionally, not visually stimulating (besides the dancers themselves), and kind of repetitive and aimless.
Basically, from an audience perspective, just a lot of vacant staring, and internal monologue of "oh, they can dance well. Good for them."
It's "Burn the Floor," but with less awareness of its audience, and set to Sinatra tunes. Have at it.

But...But...BdwyFan says it's amazing. BdwyFan, who am I to believe?!
Why the Hell is this on Broadway? They'll have no rush, but standing room "WHEN" they sell out? A little presumptuous...

Absolutely agree with this, MiracleElixir. It was very, very repetitive and aimless. Once she set up who the characters were, they were never really went on a journey or arc. They just wandered on and off the stage with no real motive or reasoning.
As it stands they could really cut a few sequences and the intermission and just make it a 90/100 minute show.
I will say this: John Selya, Charlie Neshyba-Hodges, and Karine Plantadit were outstanding. I have loved Selya since I saw him in THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN', DAMN YANKEES and GUYS AND DOLLS...and he doesn't disappoint here. The things Charlie can do with his body are incredible - he got a loud ovation from the audience after one of his numbers. Plantadit really has the "it factor." Her stage presence was enormous and you could not take your eyes off of her when she was on stage.
I'll be very interested to see if this catches on with audiences - tonight's seemed tepid compared to other first previews I have attended. Still, I wish them the best.
Highlights of the evening for me: the logo on the playbill reminded me of NEVER GONNA DANCE (two dancers on top of the empire state building vs. two dancers on top of the brim of a hat) and I believe there was a song from NEVER GONNA DANCE (thought I can't recall which one it was right now). Also, "Teach Me Tonight," and "New York, New York" brought me back to LIZA'S AT THE PALACE, which made me smile.
I walked past the theatre while using the marquis bathrooms during tech and the theatre doors were wide open. It looked very 'cruise ship' to me. Is there at least a story?
Pick Yourself Up was also in "Never Gonna Dance." Definitely made me think of Nancy Lemenager and Noah Racey too!
singtopher- There really isn't a plot per se. All the characters are at some sort of club and there are clear couples, but they really don't travel on a story arc together.
Yes! "Pick Yourself Up." That was it. What a wonderful reminder of Nancy Lemenager!! Thanks.

Like Jay says, it seems it's a shill, since he joined today to rave about this show. LOL!
So glad you can pick up on sarcasm, muscle.
Woops, there it is again... my bad.

For those who weren't crazy about this, did you like Movin' Out? I was assuming this would be similar, and although I'm not a huge dance fan, I really enjoyed Tharp's take on Billy Joel's music.
