Hello!

Another Brit here planning a big trip in April. Hoping the knowledgable people on here will be able to answer a few of my questions!

Saw that it was only just announced that Nicole will be out for the whole of Easter week over at Sunset - this is great for me as I’m planning my trip the week after so hopefully she’ll be rested and in fantastic voice! Was just wondering is this something that happens often, where the star takes leave at reasonably short notice? (Obviously there may be personal reasons that Nicole is taking this time off, she definitely deserves a break - just thinking it will be a bit of a headache for the producers/box office as I’d imagine a lot of people will go for refunds or exchanges to later on). I really want to see Idina in Redwood so would definitely want to plan around any possible absence. I guess it’s even more important sales-wise for Idina to be there because Sunset is at least a recognisable show even without the star! I can’t see any off-dates for Idina on the Redwood website, has anyone heard of any that were announced?

Secondly, is there any published holiday dates for Megan Hilty and Jennifer Simard for DBH? And would refunds be granted if either were off? Guessing not as they’re not above the title? I’m sure their covers are brilliant but it’s a toss up between Gypsy and DBH for me right now, and if I found out that Megan was out I might go for Gypsy instead.

Thanks in advance for any info or advice, I can’t wait to be back in New York!

The funny thing is that every performer you have mentioned other than Nicole has missed performances that weren't scheduled. Friends were able to get a refund when Hilty was out. First they rescheduled but their new date she was out as well.

Another April traveller although I will be there April 15-20 and got the email last night about Nicole being out. I’m kind of now in a spot of deciding whether to keep my partial view SB ticket which I paid $87 for or refund for sometime else. As it stands right now I have 1 slot left and am waiting to see the reviews for Operation Mincemeat. I typically go for more dramatic shows but am pretty open. Am also open to off Broadway and am intrigued by the new Jonathan Larson show. Here is my lineup:

Tuesday

Wednesday mat: Sunset Blvd

Wednesday: Othello

Thursday: The last 5 years

Friday: real women have curves

Sat mat: good night and good luck

Saturday: Gypsy

being Canadian the dollar is awful right now so I try and find discounts wherever possible

I'd strongly suggest Smash. My wife and I saw it workshopped a year ago and we loved it.

Yes I had seen that a lot of the leading ladies had been out over the past few months, but hoping that come the Spring there will be healthier casts! Thanks for the info about your friend being able to get a refund when Megan was out though, that’s useful to know.

And Smash is definitely on my list!

My wife and I are headed to New York City in early April. It's always fascinating to see other people's lists and think, "I probably won't see most of those shows, but that sounds like a good lineup." There are more shows I'd like to see than slots (and money).

I'm trying to figure out which shows I need to buy in advance and which ones I can wait on (my wife likes to keep a few slots open, and one of the spring shows I've overlooked might turn out to be great).

The only shows I plan to buy in advance are Gypsy (even though I probably could get away with waiting), Maybe Happy Ending (to get seats near the center), and Dead Outlaw (although I'm stuck seeing it the pricier first preview because that's my last night and I'm still hoping for a discount, perhaps in vain).

There are shows I will probably skip either due to cost (the big name plays, The Outsiders, The Picture of Dorian Gray). And then there's a bunch that we'll decide on later if possible. I'd rather try to snag rush tickets or get something at the TKTS booth. And then there's Just in Time, which I'm ambivalent about but do like as a Monday show possibility.

The 5 p.m. Thursday late matinee starts for Oh, Mary! are brutal. Do people race to 7 p.m. shows afterward? That just seems uncivilized.

You should be out of the 5 pm Oh Mary by 6:40 or so. If your 7 pm show is close by, you’ll be fine, since it’s unlikely that a 7 pm show would actually start much before 7:10. If it’s an 8:00 curtain, you’ll absolutely be fine.
