That really sucks and I'm a bit pissed about this.

Jordan, that's a severe understatement. What a disappointment.
When did Laurents and Sondheim start speaking to each other again?
I don't know that they were ever not speaking. I think they have a working relationship still but they are no longer friends.

I sort of can't believe Barbra is going to not do it now just because of this. If she is "disappointed", isn't she a big enough star to make herself (and the people who were dying to see the movie) happy?
She can't do it BECAUSE of Laurents. If he says no, it's no. It's his property.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm glad.
She's too damn old.

Here's hoping he changes his mind...
Remember when he said he would never work with the Pone again.
He changes his mind a lot.
Personally, I would like to see LaStriesand step on him and sqash him like a bug as she sings "FOR ME!".
I've heard that SS and Laurents are on better terms these days. Still, sad to see this not happen. It could have been interesting.
I would have loved to see it as well(sadly because I think it would be awful)I love gypsy, not a huge Babs fan( I know I should give back my card)but she is simply too old! Film isn't as forgiving as theatre.
On my drive home work today I was thinking to myself how excited I was for this film. Oh well, there goes that.

I also think that Barbra is too mature, but it would be fascinating to see here take on it. She was raised by a "Mama Rose." I, for one, would love to see it. It would be "Grandmama Rose", but who cares? From a pure monetary take on it, they, meaning Laurents and Sondheim, could make a lot of money if it did happen. I vote YES!
Yes, she is too old. But it would have been interesting to see them try.
If this does not happen she will prob sit and do nothing and design another ridiculous home.
Barbra, film BALLROOM!
This is really disappointing. Streisand would have been absolutely phenomenal. I do not think her age would have been a problem at all.
F*@k 'em both. She should do MAME.

Barbra could NEVER play Mame for the very same reason Bette Midler is all wrong. She's inherently Jewish in appearance and in sense of comedy/accent/etc. They're both phenomenal actresses but a major plot point is about how the Upsons are anti-Semitic.
Huh? Laurent's explanatIon makes zero sense- I'm
Not even going to try to rationalize it.
I wish they would still do it in concert form!

I think Rosalind Russel's Mama Rose was perfect—black and white shoes and all.

Maybe they'll make it up to her by letting her star in the next revival. We're due for one soon anyways.
You want a movie? Here's your movie. Lea from Glee as Gypsy, Seth Rogan as Howie and Gwyneth Paltrow as Mama Rose.

Babs could always play the mother in Ruthless.
