Audience Participation Shows? #1
Posted: 7/16/21 at 6:59pmIm just curiouswhich shows allow singing and dancing along during the productions? Which shows allow things outside the normal audience reactions (laughing, clapping, saying things like OHHHH, etc) such as singing and dancing? Im confused. Someone told me actors like that, but if I were in the audience where an audience member sang along with a performer singing She Used To Be Mine or another 11 oclock number Id be very upset.

“Pippin”, during the choruses of “No Time at All” (“But only the choruses… I sing the verses!&rdquo![]()
“The Mystery of Edwin Drood”, during certain moments of “The Wages of Sin”
Various moments in both “Six” and “Natasha, Pierre…”
I think both “KPOP” and “Here Lies Love”?
“Hedwig and the Angry Inch” - singalong section of “Wig in a Box”

"The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" had four audience members on stage as spellers for the first 20-minutes (or so) of every performance. During the opening of Act 2 for the "Cabaret" revival, the Emcee would dance with one female audience member and one male audience member. The audience member "sitting on" the Holy Grail was taken on stage for a picture. I'm sure there are others.

Cast members of HELLO, DOLLY! knew I was in the wben I sang along during the overture (and other audience members invariably joined in). They also liked when I sang along with the brief encore after the title number.

When I've gone to first preview of some revivals, I normally see a good number of people mouthing the words but not actually singing (no sound out all.) Perhaps that's what the person meant as what the actors were ok with?

Unfortunately, no one is stopping people from woohoo'ing, singing, and/or laughing during inappropriate moments in shows, so this question seems kinda moot. lol

I think some mega mixes get that vibe.(mamma mia, tina)
But, no, I would think most actors want to BE the show.
