EW posted three songs (“Are You There," “Role of a Lifetime” and “A Million Miles from Heaven”) today from BARE although I don't know what these are. The opening is (like many have said) a redux of the CARRIE opening number. Can't say I much care for the others that have been reworked for whatever reason.
Also since when is BARE referred to as pop-rock?

I suppose some could call it pop/rock--the classification when it's used on radio is pretty broad. I know originally it was called a Pop Opera, but I've seen regional productions for some reason call it a rock opera.
Nothing was wrong with the original opening number. It was brilliantly conceived, written, structured, and orchestrated.
My guess is that it was too Catholic, and they wanted something more universal.
I thought pop rock was that thing you sucked on till it exploded in your mouth?

I was listening to them when I came across this thread^.^ I actually really liked A Million Miles from heaven, which I thought I wouldn't since I love Epiphany (of course, I'd love if they were both in the show, but whatever). I really didn't like the lyric changes in Role of a Lifetime- they were kind of cheesy.... And I loved Are You There (although Taylor Trensch has a very odd quality to his voice- I don't know how to describe it, but it's odd. I still think the song rocked though>.<)
"A Million Miles from Heaven" isn't a bad song by any means, but it's forgettable and trite, especially when compared to the original opening.
It's too generic--I guess that was thepoint though--to make it more broad and involving more chracters
Just from the opening number, I really hope this doesn't become the final version of the show. The 2 disc recording with Matt Doyle was near perfect. Why would someone listen to that and want to change it?
Carrie needed work. This I just don't get.
I would still like the You Don't Know number to get recorded. I think that's the one I'm talking about...
If I was a wildly wealthy person, I'd seduce and 'keep' Stafford just to get him to stop directing.
They have “A Million Miles from Heaven” as a free download on their website. I wonder if they will do the same with some of the other songs...
Well, the recording is near-perfect, but the show was not. I don't mind them TRYING to change, but the changes they made just didn't help.
I wouldn't imagine they would release all the songs, I suspect they are hoping to release a cd and make some bank.

@THDavis: Yeah, the Nadia/Ivy duet. I'd rather have had that recorded than Are You There (we've already heard their version of Are You There from Broadway on Broadway). For one thing, I want someone with a better ear than I to put together the sheet music:P
I agree. It was easily the best new song of the show. Maybe only because of how gorgeous their voices sounded together. Mmm...
