Welcome (back) to a show about death!
Appropriately, the irrepressible Beetlejuice gets resurrected for a third Broadway stint, starting today(-o). The viral sensation, which is bypassing a preview period, comes to New York as the conclusion of a profitable national tour. The cast includes Justin Collette as the titular ghost and Isabella Esler as Lydia Deetz; also featured are Megan McGinnis, Will Burton, Jenni Barber, Jesse Sharp, Patrick Oliver Jones, Travis Mitchell, Sharone Sayegh, Vanessa Aurora Sierra, and Emilia Tagliani. With a score by Eddie Perfect, a book by Scott Brown and Anthony King, choreography by Connor Gallagher, and direction by Alex Timbers, Beetlejuice runs until January 3 at the Palace Theatre.
“Based on Tim Burton’s dearly beloved film, this hilariously demented musical tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes.”
Who’s making their way back to the Netherworld?!
TodayTix lists a 2:30 runtime, including an intermission.
There will be a 17-piece orchestra + conductor (Kris Kukul) for this remount. Andy Grobengieser, who has been conducting the tour, is Kukul's associate MD for the New York stop.
Also, it looks like Trisha Paytas is joining the NY run as Maxine Dean.
There's not really a point to have this on Broadway for the third time, I wish they'd move it to New World Stages and call it a day.

why was it on the website and now gone
why is it real
why were you right
I saw this the first go round in previews at the Winter Garden and honestly found it to be the most grating and headache-inducing show I've ever sat through.
That being said, the show has a devout fanbase. Curious to see how this will fare on round 3 on Broadway.
As a limited run for spooky season in a very thin fall on Broadway, why not?

I mean, you have to say his name three times ;)
How was tonight???
Did they go back to the opening rhyme they used for the Marquis remount in “The Whole ‘Being Dead’ Thing”?

Some of us think the same about you

There's almost no buzz about this returning. Haven't read any reports on their reopening. Reddit is dead when mentioning the show's return. Curious to see their grosses over time.
Caught the matinee this afternoon. I hadn’t seen it since the original production in previews and I did not like it at all, but I chalk part of that up to having just saw Hadestown (a preview) earlier that afternoon). Plus, TodayTix had a drop for $43 (which is less than rush/lotto) so I took it.
I started in the balcony and, even though it looks like they filled the stage with as much of a tour set as possible, I felt a million miles away. This was not helped by the fact that a bunch of teenagers were also in the balcony and they were perpetually on their phones with ushers responding frequently, but nothing seemed to stick. I moved down to the side orchestra for Act II and it was much better. The house seemed barely sold anyway.
The show was fine, I guess. It follows in the footsteps of every other tour that decided to take root on Broadway for a spell. You can feel the cast is hitting their marks and not really going out of their way to inject extra humor into the material (the audience response was tepid and there were a few gay jokes in there that were lazy and dated). The only standout of the cast was Madison Moseley as the Lydia alternate, who has PIPES and a bright future. But everything else felt like very well-trodden road. Unless you haven’t seen it, are obsessed with it, or get a comp, there is absolutely NO need to go back and visit this.
Also, I wanted to get it in before the Blonde Whose Name I Dare Not Speak joined the cast.
Alex Brightman saw the show for the very first time last night.
Also, the cast appeared on GMA this morning to perform “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song) / The Whole ‘Being Dead’ Thing”:

Can someone explain to me why this show went viral? I've been listening to the cast album lately thinking it must have a lot of catchy hooks or something for it have taken off on TikTok. But no...it's very generic and forgettable.

The Tonys performance gave it a big boost to start, which led to more fan engagement online that the production capitalized on. Combine that with the pandemic/premature closure to make way for THE MUSIC MAN that rankled fans, and you have a viral hit.
Although, like any virus, people eventually get over it - as indicated by the numbers so far for this revival. It appears Broadway needs a break from this show.
I'm in the city tonight through Sunday, I'll be spending my Halloween at the show, with hadestown tomorrow and two free slots Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
I found the show enjoyable because of the humor and the music, but I shouldn't be one to listen to, I find the most mundane things enjoyable if they're funny enough. This was the show that really got me into musical theatre, it's just one of those shows that'll become a gateway into the art form (A la, Heathers and Hamilton.)
It's just a fun time to me. I'll be seeing the non eq tour when it lunches and continue having fun with it. I don't listen to it regularly, but I'll watch a bootleg of it and laugh when i'm feeling down, like thinking about my dad and whatnot. Let the kids find out about it and find their way into theatre, we all had that one show and other people need their one.

I actually do find the music quite catchy. It's not necessarily inventive or anything new, but it's solid poppy music that can be fun to sing along to (or attempt to, since some of those vocal ranges are crazy). I also appreciate their dedication to the bit in rewriting the lyrics to the opening for any event/performance they do.
