i can hear the knives being sharpened across the ocean here in London. The critics are going to catty with this one. I’ll like to see what they’ll say about Alex Brightman’s performance.

These reviews are gonna be all over the map.

I'm expecting (and after giving this turd 3 hours, frankly hoping for) something resembling the Guy Fieri's American Grill review, but for theatre.

If I had to award Tonys for Musical, Book, and Score and could only choose Beetlejuice or Gettin' the Band Back Together, I would choose Band in all categories.

These will probably be the most b%tchy reviews of the season (with one or two positive reviews to make us all scratch our heads).

Bad reviews notwithstanding, the scenic and lighting design are really top-notch, and most certainly worthy of positive recognition. As far as the show is concerned, I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would, and I think it's better than the film. Hooray for lowered expectations!

The fact that it's following Tootsie's raves doesn't help it, either. Reviewers will undoubtedly compare them.

Critics like what they are "supposed" to like and dislike what they are "supposed" to dislike.

I expect miserable reviews because that is what is expected of them.

I had a blast at Beetlejuice. Critics are predictable.

So much critic hate these days, let's give it a rest y'all.

As someone who writes reviews on the side, obviously there's "some" kind of bias going in, we're only human, but I can assure you that the work is the work and anyone going into a show with a predetermined opinion of whether their review will be good or bad is not a good critic in the least.

As for Beetlejuice, everyone is entitled to say what they perceived of the show, and people saying they didn't like it doesn't mean you're wrong for liking it. That feels so rote to say but apparently in a world where critics are getting heaped on from Ariana Grande to people on this board, it needs to be reiterated.

Oh, SomethingPeculiar. How quickly we forget that this season gave us the most glittering, nastiest, most over the top hateful (and hilarious) review: Brantley and Green’s two critic pile-on of King Kong. I doubt we’ll see anything that astonishing again tonight, but boy, I did hate this show!

Oh god...that was this season.

thats a fairly negative review and yet he gives it 3/5 stars. Im a bit confused about that

I suspect TIME OUT will mirror most of the reviews. I think he was being generous with 3 stars, but he did really like the physical production and some of the performances.

I was about to say the same thing...maybe fit the things he praised it for in the first paragraph.

...I also had to Google what "slipshod" meant.

I should’ve been Blac Chyna.

The Time Out review reads to me like "messy but entertaining" which is how I think most of these reviews will be.

Matt windman is the best NY theatre critic out there. For me, every time i see a show that he reviews i feel the exact same way. I wish the NYTIMES would have chosen him instead of the emotional overly dramatic , snarky jesse green.

matt windman is a hack that cant review a show without spoiling major plot points

Agreed. I actually think he's one of the WORST critics we have.

Agreed - Matt Windman is embarrassing.

Well, the definition of “best” is also subjective.
