Same.  If Grampa's love story and the political story are still not adding value to the plot; and if Faith Prince is still criminally underutilized then I really question what they fixed since Chicago.  Sounds like a more flashy 2nd act opener and that's it.  I am tempted to find the Chicago previews thread because a lot of the "very early" feedback sounds VERY similar to what many of us said during that OOT tryout.

Jasmine will absolutely be nominated for this performance. Having seen it in Chicago, I find what she's doing on that stage to be more interesting than Nicole and Audra. There's no roadmap or previous incarnation on stage. She's built that entire performance up from scratch. It's a star in the making performance.

100% agree. It's so refreshing seeing something new on Broadway and see someone originate a role! Jasmine is insane.

I so agree, Jasmine is the stand out and makes the show, but it is enough? No. Not unlike Sunset that had Nicole but had such powerful originality so it worked together whereas Paradise Square had Joaquina Kalukango but the show was weak and listless

It's kinda crazy. Before I blocked them I would be in posts about OTHER MUSICALS and they would be like "this is great, unlike Boop"😂it's clearly a personal axe to grind like I've never seen in this forum before and I have no idea why the moderators are allowing this person to spam every single thread about one thing and ruin all discussions.
"

let's not be so rude darling. i saw the show in Chicago and my POV is that it was not good. My opinion. I am going tonight and will report back this evening. Do not be so critical of those that my have their own views. Broadway is for grownups, somethings succeed and some flop and until Trump takes over this website, I will express my thoughts to those are not childish to block the truth.
"

Wait a second. You have made dozens of posts trashing the show, including your very own little troll thread dedicated to trashing the show. You claim to seen a show you loathe two (2) time already in Chicago, and now you claim you are racing out to see the first Broadway preview? Something is really not adding up here.

Based on another comment I unfortunately saw quoted, it seems like they know people in the production. So they may have been invited to see it as a guest multiple times, only to come here to trash it. (Or it gives more weight to my "it's a reverse psychology troll" theory.)

He supposedly knows an investor.

Mr Showbiz: BTW, your opinion is not truth. That's not how it works.

Is this like when you find out the homophobe was gay all along? IT'S OK TO LOVE IT, YOU DON'T NEED TO BE ASHAMEDDDD

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Is anyone else from our online community going tonight?

I just checked ticket sales and it is almost SOLD OUT......I cannot wait.

We are in town for 5 shows. Death Becomes Her was a real hoot. Maybe Happy Ending was lovely. But Boop tonight was pure musical theater heaven. Wonderful old fashioned score and 3 star making performances. Second act was perfect and while first act could use a bit of tightening, I don’t know when I’ve walked out of a theater lately with such a grin on my face. Go!

No one mentioned Pudgy yet!?

I saw the show tonight and every time Pudgy was on stage I couldn’t stop watching him. Incredible puppetry/marionette work being done here.

That Act 2 opening number was outstanding. I literally gasped at what I was seeing, it was such perfect theatrical magic, some of the best use of costumes & lighting I’ve seen. I’d want to see it again just for that.

As others have said, yeah the book is bizarre and doesn’t really make sense, but that didn’t really bother me, I still had a blast. It was just pure fun to see a bright, colorful, splashy show with big dance numbers and a star-making lead performance.

I saw this tonight and had a huge smile from beginning to end. If people are saying the storyline about a 100 year old cartoon character transporting to another dimension is "unrealistic" and using that as a criticism of the show, then I don't know what there is to say to them. I'm not out here saying it's a show without any flaws because I'm sure I could find stuff that didn't work as well as I might have wanted, but as a musical about Betty Boop, it's exactly what I never knew I wanted.

Everyone has pointed out how Jasmine is incredible and she really is. This is the kind of "Star is Born" moment we haven't had on Broadway in a while and I'm so here for it, cheering her on loudly - one of my favorite performances of the season. I laughed a lot, I oohed and aahed a lot and even got a few tears in my eyes. This is the old school type of musical we don't get much of anymore and it sure does feel like we won the Broadway lottery with "Boop". Great dancing, a fun (and memorable!) score complete with a damn good NEW 11 o'clock number. We haven't had many of those lately.

But I'll add this to the top of the list of shows I'll be recommending to people coming into town. We need more of these and we need them badly.

I don't think anyone's complained about the show being unrealistic? Unless it's the relentless Boop hater who I have blocked, I don't see that among the criticisms in the thread.

You have way too much time on your hands, my friend… I am not a Boop hater - it’s just not a good show. Save your money and get some lessons in being a nice person.

I wish everyone well but David Foster is a Trumper and will not support anything with his name on it.  He is a miserable human.

A fair amount of all major Broadway producers as well as major Broadway investors are Republican voters. Broadway sort of needs to get over the delusion that it runs purely within our Democratic bubble.

respectfully, this has nothing to do with politics. The show is a big wad  of bubble gum with no message of substance or any sustaining power. If there are tourist coming this year, maybe they’ll be some uptake in the box office… But I would project that this will be closed by the fall, if not earlier

Jordan, do you think he doesn’t like the musical?   I am not really sure.  I get the feeling he is on the line with his overall review. (I blocked him a long time ago.)

Saw this last night. Very talented cast, great costumes and design. Sadly, the score and lyrics do not come remotely close to either,

Not getting over anything, respectfully.  The US is in shambles and I don't want a cent of mine knowingly going to any POS of crap Republican who voted for this Oligarchy.   I think a weekend activity will be looking up what major Broadway producers donated to T**mp or GOP.  Also David Foster is wildly untalented and a terrible person

This sums up how I felt after the first preview too. Looking for something new? Boop. Want to see a star being born? Boop. Beautiful costumes? Boop. A fun original score? Boop. Tap dancing and big ensemble numbers? Well, you get the idea. I've already recommended this show to everyone I know.

Veron - I understand your frustration  and anger but I think you will find such an exercise is going to leave you very disheartened, and with essentially no Broadway theatre you can attend. If you want to take it a step further, look into who the donors are at your favorite regional theaters. You won't be pleased.

David Foster is supremely talented -look at the songs he has written, and don't weaken your arguement by making silly statements to the contrary.
