I think they are two different things, and people shouldn't try to compare them because a movie can never match the experience of going to the theatre. But they can still be entertaining.

No, it's the play I think has the most artistic merit, not that I listen to most frequently.

Once, but not on Broadway. Someone needs to launch a major revival.

Favorite to listen to is Sunset. Admire most West Side Story for artistic value.

The best musical turned into a movie would be West Side Story.
As for the best "movie musical" translation from stage, I'd say "The Sound of Music"
If I have to do a modern one, probably "Phantom of the Opera" which repaired a lot of the problems I have with the play even though Gerald Buttler was incredibly miscast.

Is there a musical you DON'T like?
Haha so many to count. Some that pop into mind: Chicago, RENT, Secret Garden, Civil War, Cats

See above. Why? The music is awful in all of them.

Do you think the movie versions are better, or the original Broadway plays?
I can't say. Depends on the project. Chicago is better as a movie. Phantom is better as a movie. Cabaret is far better as a musical as is Bye Bye Birdie.
