This was such a fun show. I loved every minute of it and was able to see it with the full cast Tony weekend. Glad I got a chance to see it!
www.SideShowOnBroadway.com and www.SideShowTheMusical.com have been registered so I'd check there because the website would be up by the time it's announced, if it is.

Posted: 7/22/14 at 6:50pmA shame. This was one of my favorite shows this year. I enjoyed it immensely when I saw it and I hoped that it would succeed.

They are dropping like flies. Many on this board are setting their sights on the next show they deem not worthy of Broadway
Max Bialystock is having a laugh now. Now I really see why I do not give a ****** **** about Broadway . It has become a joke.

Posted: 7/22/14 at 7:03pmLooks like SIDE SHOW is coming. The amount of shows closing is just so insane, especially NEWSIES. What's next? Phantom of the Opera? ***SARCASM***

Posted: 7/22/14 at 7:05pmSuch a shame. This was easily my favorite show of the season.

Posted: 7/22/14 at 7:24pmI really wanted to like the show. I love the idea of big, grand classic-style musical on broadway (perhaps that's a reason why I'm so excited about the new revival of On the Town), but this just couldn't tie the pieces together. With all the previously announced limited engagement shows ending and the others that have closed recently, it does feel like a slam.

Stroman with 2 duds in one season.
There seems to be very few survivors this season. Luckily, there are some exciting musicals coming in.

I've barely paid attention to this one. Ironic that the thing that finally interests me in seeing it is the costume design in the shot BWW used to announce the closing.
I would love more than anything for Side Show to come in, and I suspect it will, but I think that would be a very, very bad idea monetarily. The St. James hasn't had an open-ended hit since Gypsy, and that was a unanimously well-received production of a beloved musical starring a leading lady who gave the most talked-about performance of the decade.

Well, for a season that had an inordinate amount of new musicals, losing an inordinate amount of them is not surprising. ALADDIN, BEAUTIFUL, GENT'S GUIDE, and IF/THEN beat the surviving count from last year (KINKY, MATILDA and MOTOWN) and if you add the continuing success of CABARET, HEDWIG and LES MIS they also outnumber last year's CINDERELLA and PIPPIN.
Yes, more shows are closing, but that's because more shows were open to close. Life cycle, not a death spiral.

Gypsy was not a hit. Nothing has turned a profit at the St.James since The Producers. It is certainly turning into a flop house.

How does a mediocre show closing have ANYTHING to do with why you (supposedly) don't care about b'way anymore? If you don't care, why do you keep posting to TELL us you don't care.
And for the millionth time: no one's opinion/speculation about the next show to close, has anything to do with what DOES close. We see the grosses, it isn't rocket science.
You have become the most curmudgeony poster on here. (Well, since I blocked the other curmudgeon.)

Glinda -- the costumes were STUNNING, but not enough (IMHO) of a reason to see the show. There were things that worked, and things that didn't. I "liked" it, but could hardly give recommendations to friends to see it.

Posted: 7/22/14 at 8:19pmI saw the original Sideshow and loved it. Prior to this season, I was looking forward to seeing this new version. Not anymore. This will be added to the list of Broadways casualties after it opens. No longer investing time any money in seeing shows that will last a few months and go.

Posted: 7/22/14 at 8:27pmI'll always feel bad about the people who are losing their jobs, but the show itself? Good riddance. A movie I adore, some brilliant cast members, and a cavalcade of wonderful songs turned into a deathly bore that felt like it ran four hours. There were worse shows this past season (I'm looking at you, Soul Doctor), but none that I found so crass in their attempts to cash in or so stunted in their artistic ambition. It was the letdown of the season for me. So bring on anything else! Side Show, if the rumors are true, would be a dream. Adored it in DC. Huge commercial risk, but a stellar, ambitious, lovely piece.

Some of the best shows I've ever seen lasted only a few months and then were gone.

Posted: 7/22/14 at 8:30pmMr Roxy, why would how long a show runs have any impact on your enjoyment of it? I'd rather be terrifically moved by something that closes way too soon than be moderately entertained by something and have it stuck around way too long. For me, part of the thrill is knowing that I caught something shimmering and lovely in the brief window it was possible to see it. How I feel about the original Side Show, in fact.

"No longer investing time any money in seeing shows that will last a few months and go. "
How do you know which shows these are until they actually announce their closing? Broadway is filled with shows that people thought would last a week and go on and on, and conversely there are tons of shows people thought would be a smash and close quickly.

Let us just say, I am disenchanted with Broadway. After getting involved in high school to now (I am almost 6
I have seen a lot but I am just tired of Broadway now. The spark is gone for many reasons. I will see shows here and there but the interest is no longer there.

Posted: 7/22/14 at 8:36pmAfter the initial few weeks, Gypsy struggled to fill seats. Side Show will be swallowed by this theatre. Not a good choice.

Posted: 7/22/14 at 8:37pmI would say (and not to be snarky) if the interest in Broadway isn't there you should also stop visiting the message boards as it will only infuriate and frustrate you. I love Broadway and some of these message board posts make me crazy. I can't imagine what I would feel if I was as disenchanted with Broadway as you are.
