1) The radio spots for the revival sound kinda creepy. Maybe it's just me.
2) He sounds... not good. It's the vibrato.
3) I'm still very excited.
oh, I think his vibrato is wondeful! If only more people had such control...
and yeah, it does sound creepy, but it should be wonderful!!!
That sounds... pretty bad. I'm still excited to see the show.
He sounds fine.
I think he sounds great...
I really have been shunning all the bad things people say about this production, but man, I really don't like his vibrato. When he doesn't put the heavy vibrato on, it is fine. But when get does the heavy vibrato, it is a little annoying. Why didn't they have Josefina sing Tonight or something? I mean I know "something's coming" but I'd rather hear her.
I just don't like the way some of his notes sound. And I don't like how he puts vibrato on every single note.
I guess some of you haven't listened to the opera Tonys. Talk about vibrato...

that was passable

I actually really liked it, but there's no such thing as too much vibrato for me.
I think he sounds good...but the whole commercial is really awkward with the overlapping vocals from Cavanaugh and the announcer.
i agree that the commercial is awkward...
The announcer makes it sound almost frightening. Especially the one on the official website. When he says "tonight" its creeps me out.
I love Matt's voice.
It sounds like he's trying way too hard to sound younger...

I love Matt's voice, and I usually love vibrato. But there's something about the vibrato and the rather bright sound of his voice on this song. I tend to like Tonys with darker qualities to their voices. I don't know what the problem is, I can't put my finger on it. For now, I have to agree with El Fantasma.

Man, I think I could make a fulltime job out of defending all things West Side Story on the internet. Saw it Sunday night and thought Matt's voice sounded great...just for the record!
I think he sounds great. I hope there's a cast album. I love that he sounds like a Broadway singer and not an opera singer like some of the other recordings.
Well, that was unfortunate.
The schizophrenic volume fluctuation made that impossible to enjoy.
I liked his voice, I thought his vibrato was fine.
But the whole announcer vs. tony thing was just terrible, made it hard to listen, I had to chose what to listen to (which I'm sure is a no no in radio production)

heh, how polarizing. At first, I was extremely skeptical of Matt's casting, because I couldn't hear his voice working for the score.... but, I loved that. He sounds great.

Perhaps it's because he's Sweeney Todd. That's Len Cariou. Maybe it's your associations with his voice.
I'd heard this on the radio several times. A certain type of excessive vibrato really drives me crazy and I didn't recall noticing it when I heard the commercial. So I clicked on the link and I really can't hear what's bothering people. Not at all.
I don't love Cavenaugh's singing, but too much vibrato? I don't hear it.
