Last night Barrett posted this,

Basiclly, due to her Social Anexity she doesnt stage door, but this option is a virtual stage door where you get a private video from her for $40 dollars. I get that actors are not required to stage door but does it seem like shes taking advanatge of this by charging 40 dollars to say a quick hi?
I wanted to see peoples thoughts on this.

I'm never upset when people don't want to stage door for any reason since it's not their job. I do think it's nice when the actor tries to do other things like sending out presigned playbills, tweets/instagrams back to fans, etc, but this does seem...in poor taste, but I guess no poorer taste than the Real Housewives who charge $100 or more for it.

I just made a similar thread about this. Obviously, actors have no obligation to stage door and it's wonderful that she's trying to provide an alternative that she's more comfortable with. That being said I don't think anybody should pay anybody for a video message because it just seems like a waste of money but I don't see why Barrett's fans are complaining when she didn't have to give them this alternative at all.
And, according to the other thread, the money is raising funds for research. She doesn't seem to be profiting from it.
Calling it a "virtual stage door" is a little odd and unnecessary, but I don't see anything wrong with it. I respect how upfront Barrett is with not wanting to do stage door because of anxiety. The comments on her Instagram post are very nasty.

Im so sorry! I didnt see the other thread!
Anyway, I feel like it becomes a little tacky when she can select the price and theres no charity attatched. Other actors have this option but donate it (like you said with Taylor) but they only charge a couple dollars. But to charge 40 and your’e jusy pocketing the money, I can see why a few fans will be upset.
(Im not sure if thats the case, but she hasnt made any mention of a Charity)

I hope this is true. I almost added a line that I hope she is donating a portion to BCEFA or another legit charity.
If theres a Chairty attatched I have zero problem with this. I think its great to donate. :)

Only some people are using it to raise money. Barrett personally isn't. But she also isn't forcing people to do cameo.

Actually her costar is raising funds for the research but it’s possible Weed may choose to do something similar
Kristen Martin, who is in Wicked, had quite a lot to say about this (she didn’t mention Weed by name and I can’t decide if it’s because she didn’t want to name names or didn’t know it was her) in her Instagram story. Her username is kemmartin if you wanted to check it out.

It seems pretty obvious who she’s talking about. Are any other performers even doing this?

Taylor Louderman is (but whatever she charges goes to charity), Hailey Kilgore is (but she’s charging a super small fee) and Ben Frakenhauser is. Those are the ones I’ve seen on the site but I didn5 go through every actor they have listed

Kristen Martin is 100% accurate, plus as an added bonus she reposted never before seen footage of that shoe song from spiderman. Check it out and check out the original poster's stories for even more.
LOL. Why would anyone here give a sh*t if she’s making money from this? Who are you to even care how someone makes their money and how others spend it? If Cher got on here and charged $100 to say hi to a fan, would you demand she be donating it to charity? Get off your high horse and get a hobby.
People need to let this girl live her life- I don't get the hate towards her in regards to rumors regarding Heathers, which in complete honesty I did not enjoy. Mean Girls is superior in every way IMO. That being said, let this girl live her life and not pick apart everything she does, it's gone too far and no wonder she doesn't want to deal with stage door crowds if we sitting behind our keyboards hurl insults can you imagine what she'd get in person?! Why put yourself through that.
Does Kristen Martin have a stake in Weed’s finances? Does Weed owe her money and isn’t paying it back? If not, I’d suggest to her to mind her own damn business when it comes to other people’s finances.
I perused the site again and Tom Felton is on there and he’s charging like 240 dollars so like suddenly 40 dollars seems super tame.
I 100% agree with the post below me. The only thing I dislike about this situation is that she's advertising it as a virtual stage door, I would be fine if it was just videos and that's hat she said it was, Its just weird to me that someone's making money off a stage door, I don't know if that makes sense but that's just what I think.
I'm not degrading her for making money. I just brought this thread up to see what people thought about it. That was literally it.

I don't have a problem with anyone monetizing their time. If she wants to charge $40 for a minute or two of her time, she certainly has the right. I think the issue is she's saying it's in lieu of the stage door. It's like she's creating a supply and demand situation with young fans and gives an impression of "you aren't worth my time unless you pay me."
She has her reasons not to stage door and I don't care if she ever does, but the situation seems creepy. However I'll admit it's essentially like a meet a greet- paying $200 to shake Britney's hand before her concert.

This is a Broadway message board, I think we can discuss events that happen that have to do with Broadway to see other peoples opinions about the matter.

It’s her time. If people feel they are entitled to a face to face as part of a persons job it’s nit unreasonable to pay for it. It’s only the same as a fan convent such as Comic-con etc. There are only so many hours in a day, why would someone do this for free?

I think it's because she's offering it as a solution to her not stage dooring. It's kind of like if someone stage doored and when the fan said "I'd love a selfie, Bernadette!" and she said "oh sure sweetie! give me $40!" If she just didn't stage door and happened to have a cameo the whole thing wouldn't read as badly.
