If they don't bring over one of the two Broadway Eliza's, who's a British star who would be appropriate for the role? It seems a little odd for an American actress to play that very famous British role (even tho it happens the other way around in New York).

Hope they get a grand Dame for Mrs. H!"
They brought over Kelli for King and I. But that felt like a given, this doesn't. I sincerely hope it's one of them. I'd prefer not to hear Sheridan Smith or Jenna Russell sing the score LOL. They do all the great musical roles in London.
1.) I may have just scared my cat with my reaction to the confirmation. Sorry, buddy. 2.) As someone who loves the redhead Eliza more than anything, I sincerely doubt she'd do it again. Laura would be more likely of the two. 3.) What are the chances of it being a Strallen if they go with a UK girl for Eliza?
I am wondering if we’ll get a proshot of this like how The King & I received one over there after its Broadway production at Lincoln Center Theater wasn’t able to get filmed for broadcast .
I loved Laura Benanti in the role, especially her singing, but I thought her Cockney accent was pretty rough, and that was 4 months into her run. On the whole, I preferred Lauren Ambrose.
Re: filming, this one might be trickier because of the rights situation. A film remake has been discussed for a while, and if someone currently holds the feature film rights, that could make this near impossible. But we will see what happens.

Same here. And for a show specifically about British accents, I can't imagine British audiences would be as forgiving. She was all over the place. I'm sure they can find a suitable Eliza based in the UK.
In a recent interview with BroadwayWorld, Bartlett Sher was asked if Lauren Ambrose or Laura Benanti are going to be starring in the transfer or if he'll be using U.K. talent. His response was "We don't know for sure yet, but that would be fun. Casting involves a lot of discussion around schedules and different things so you'll have to keep guessing!."
People keep saying "fresh face" –– but if the Broadway production is an indication, Eliza will be late 30s-40s to match Higgins. If the tour is an indication, she will be a woman of color.
Unlikely it would happen, but I'd actually prefer to see Danny Burstein come over with the production instead of one of the Broadway Elizas. More likely that they cast an Andy Nyman type, or a Robert Lindsay type.
I pray they follow the route of Sher's King and I and bring over the two principal leads from his original Broadway production. If they end up doing a pro-shot of this production like TKAI, I will be deeply disappointed if we don't get Harry and Lauren together. I was a massive fan of Ambrose's Eliza. I thought she was an absolute delight, and if it wasn't for Lenk's unbeatable tour de force performance that year, I would have easily been rooting for her for the Tony.
Only one person who repeated their opinion twice has said fresh face. We get it. Lolz.
Anyways, it will probably be an established actress and most likely won't be American because real accents are better than fake ones and considering Lauren had such a negative experience in this show, it surely won't be her.
Just looking through the website now, and it doesn’t seem like Trafalgar is a producer on this, which was a major reason why The King and I was filmed. Without their involvement, I don’t think a filming is in the cards…. Also I hate the logo they’ve chosen. The Broadway version perfect.

I kinda love the new logo...feels more joyful than the Broadway version.
Trafalgar's founders were the commercial producing partner for KING AND I on Broadway (via Ambassador Theatre Group, which they previously ran before started Trafalgar). Nederlander was the commercial producing partner for MY FAIR LADY and is also producing the tour.
