I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised!

Most influential in the WORLD? As in Broadwayworld? Otherwise that's ridiculous.

Really?
His dad's more influential.

This made me actually LOL.
The fact that actors are included on such a list is an insult to all of the doctors, teachers, nurses, etc. out there in the world.
This guy must have the best publicist nepotism can buy

LOL. exactly.
I'm sure he's practicing his faux humble smile as we speak... right before he takes a pic with REESE WITHERSPOON!
That "list" is laughable. Emma Stone?!?!? Ryan Reynolds?!?! Viola Davis?!?!
I've seen no indication that Platt is arrogant or entitled, and he is undeniably very talented. But influential? How? What has he influenced?

I had NO idea Marc Platt was Ben's father - thought it was just a coincidence in names! The kid is still amazingly talented but I do wonder about placing actors/performers on this list - especially when they are so young.
"
Reason why I don't buy this list is there's no Beyonce, Adele, Gaga, or Hillary Clinton on this list. All of them can send out a single tweet and internet goes haywire. Viola Davis (bless her soul) is not as influential as, say, Michelle Obama or even Shonda Rhimes.
Anyone note Jason Blum's piece was written by Harvey W? Good god, it reads more like a self-congratulatory write up than anything else.

That's like, so cute though.
I LOL'd at the headline but more at these responses. The fact that he is on this list makes it most ridiculous.

Are there any limits to getting on the list? Like can you only get it once?
I'm happy Chance made the list.

I adored Ben Platt's performance and he seems like a genuinely nice guy. I think he deserves so many accolades that are coming his way. But I do think he and many others on this list should be moved to a "100 People to Watch" list.
This is BAFFLING to me. It truly makes no sense. Maybe they mean the character or the show - but Ben Platt himself? Sheesh, he's not doing a good job of trying to stay out of his dad's spotlight when he literally gets him placed in the Times 100 Most Influential People in the World.
What is he even influencing? Producers' desires to raise ticket prices?
Look, he's a great performer. His voice is incredible and he's a fantastic actor and I truly do believe that he has gotten where he is based on talent and not who his father is, but I would not consider him to be among the top 100 most influential people of this year. However, I do believe that Viola Davis deserves a spot on this list, but it is odd to not have someone like Hillary Clinton, Lady Gaga, Adele, Beyonce, and Michelle Obama. It's all just a bit strange.

You all realize they have no input or involvement with the actual selection process, right? I agree. This list is beyond ridiculous. But it's almost as if you all are taking it out on him personally. Try reading up on how TIME creates this list before posting....
I just noticed Riz Ahmed's article is written by Lin.

I think this list shows a much bigger issue. North Americas infatuation with celebrity. With all the issues in the world today, and with all the grander issues from terrorism, war, to the climate change, to cutting edge research in the medical fields, and so many more, it blows me away the importance people put on celebrity. Look at MSN, who is marrying/divorcing who in Hollywood takes equal billing with issues of world importance. Its crazy. I enjoy a good movie or theater as much as the next person, but lets keep these things in perspective. Yes there are those who use their celebrity status to bring awareness to issues and raise money for some great causes, and that of course is wonderful, but again.....perspective. Just my opinion of course.
