what's next for Caissie Levy

With her recent Tony win, and the show closing in August, I'm curious if she has anything lined up for the Fall or if she plans to take a break. She has been working pretty consistently now for years. Would love to hear if there was any word on her joining anything this coming season

I don’t think she has taken a significant break (more than a year?) since she started out.

After learning more about the new Sara Bareilles and Michael Arden musical, I’d love to see her originate a role in that. But with that having an out of town tryout, I wonder if that would be a no go.

Maybe the gilded age? (Only half kidding)

Part of me thinks she’d make a wonderful Mrs. Brown in “Paddington”.

I was wondering the same thing too!!! I was asking because I was recently told she's "being considered for a couple things" but no comment on if it was for this coming season or any timeline.  I think shed be great in a musical that I really enjoy

The character of Mrs. Brown needs to completely exude warmth, love and kindness. It’s a tough role to cast and there’s something about Levy that just makes me think she could be perfect for it.

I agree but it's still technically a replacement role. Clyde would be more of a challenge and more exciting.

I don't know if that is a joke or serious, but it would be great to have a more age-appropriate Rose for once.  Don't see her in the role, however.

While I agree that Levy would probably do a good job in the role, I also think it would be a bit of a waste of Levy's talents and star power.  Your average audience member isn't walking out of Paddington thinking about Zap Bam Pow and its slightly forced lyrics, or basically anything that the Browns do in the show, at all.  Levy's a magnetic actress and singer who is good with bad material and superb with good material, but Mrs Brown is so ancillary to the show in my view that I just don't think it would be that worthwhile.

With that said, people have mouths to feed and mortgages to pay, so...

Perhaps if Lost Boys is still open when Shoshana leaves, Caissie can go into the role she was supposed to originate?

I hope she has better options than a replacement in Lost Boys considering she just won a Tony

Your average audience member won't recognize Levy as having any star power. We aren't average audience members; she may be an amazing star to us, but to the average audience member, her star power is no different than that of the 13th replacement for Elphaba in Wicked, whom the average audience member is just as impressed with.

I understand that Levy wasn’t just on a successful movie or starring in a TV show or even been on ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ but she is coming off a run of a lauded (and much-seen, thanks to the proshot) lead performance in Next to Normal followed by a Tony-winning star turn in Ragtime

At the peak of her career, there simply isn’t any reason for her to take a minor role in Paddington or even replace Bean in The Lost Boys.

I agree that she’s only a Broadway star, not an actress that average people know, but Levy seems to be in high demand for major roles. She turned down a Tony-winning part this year. There aren’t many female Broadway stars in their prime at the moment. Levy is one of them.

Which is another reason why I don't think Levy would get cast in Paddington, to be honest.  She's just won a Tony and has led several major Broadway (and West End!) shows; she's far more likely to be expensive to hire than a less well known Elphaba replacement.  The Mrs Brown actress in London is a stalwart of the industry but certainly isn't a "known" figure at all, much less a multiple award nominee, and the human roles are so little of a draw to book to see the show that it doesn't feel like casting any of the roles with actors of any kind of profile is worth the associated costs, except perhaps whichever game old hoofer they get to play Mrs Bird.

If the options are there, she should try for film/tv.  I think all that warmth/natural presence you are mentioning would work even better onscreen.  If Spielberg saw Ragtime, I could see him keeping an eye on her -- he loves to cast NY stage actors.

For whatever reason, Caissie Levy has never branched out into film or TV. Her credits are limited to a couple of film shorts, a yet-to-premiere anthology series on a streaming service I don’t know, and the Next to Normal proshot.
