Thinking of seeing the show next weekend when I'm in town for a convention, but see that Offerman is out and Shawn Pfautsch is on. Is it worth it without Offerman? The reactions are all over the place on this thread. I saw Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil here a few years back and liked it more than most...so wondering if this might be up my alley as well.

I was just thinking of Kristen Beth Williams the other day. For a while, she seemed to be popping up in everything but I hadn't heard her name in a while. I think she'll be great in this because I remember her as an actor who was great with physical comedy as well as serious drama...plus her singing and dancing were top notch. This should be an interesting pairing.

But I do think it’s worth asking for a little more specificity when the criticism is as broad as “she’s not a good director” or “I wish she wasn’t directing this.”What, specifically, isn’t working for you? If the options are there, she should try for film/tv. I think all that warmth/natural presence you are mentioning would work even better onscreen. If Spielberg saw Ragtime, I could see him keeping an eye on her -- he loves to cast NY stage actors.

I was in town and caught BRIGADOON this past weekend, and I thought it was absolutely delightful. It's not a show I'm especially familiar with, but there are some lovely songs peppered throughout the merely pleasant ones. The set is stunning, and since the show is so awash in a kind of magic and mystery, they did well establishing that tone early on. Yes! Somebody Somewhere is unequivocally terrific. Speaking of Jeff Hiller, he'd also made a handsome Mary Todd. Or an interesting Lincoln opposite Everett. That's probably more of my Somebody Somewhere revival dreams than anything, though.
