As Lin-Manuel Miranda would agree, Right This Way from Bandstand. Truly amazing. It's something I can't even describe without something having seen it.
Right This Way- Bandstand (my absolute favorite song from the recording, I think it's a really strong Act 1 closer compared to all the musicals I've seen/heard)
Before The Parade Passes By- Hello, Dolly!
The marching band feel to the song makes me smile from ear to ear anytime I hear it.
This season definitely provided some all-timers, including BANDSTAND and DEAR EVAN HANSEN (which shakes me to my core every time). HAMILTON and IN THE HEIGHTS are phenomenal of course.
-Gypsy (an absolute classic and masterclass in structuring)
-Sweeney Todd (the humor! The internal rhymes! The fact that it's about cannibalism but still allows you to see where Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett are coming from!)
-Hamilton ("Non-stop" is one of my faves from that show)
-Ragtime (hoo boy, nothing can top the sorrow, emotion, and power)
When all of the set leaves, leaving Patti and Christine alone on an otherwise empty stage, belting that song with such power is something I will never forget.
Without these leading ladies, would it have been memorable?
