Daphne WAS mimi.
Maya Days was pretty amazing. Her Out Tonight was off the wall! I thought she was going to kill herself. Her performance was definitly a personification of "No Day But Today" and you felt like she was living each moment as her last. A really ballsy, but sweet, Mimi.
Marcy Harriel was adorable (a different take on Mimi, but I liked it, and she is sooooo likeable and fun on stage).
Krysten Cummings was also great. A really rough and tumble sort of girl. All of the Mimi's I've seen recently are too feminine and cautious...Krysten was the most rough and tough and was the real deal.

Daphne was great as Mimi! I've seen several takes on the mimi character and daphne by far was the best. I actually LOVE her voice for the character.
However.....
if I were the producer or director for the Rent MOVIE... I would not have extend the offer for the role.
Why?
'Cause she looks like an old lady. Daphne looks so weathered and beaten up nowadays. For the stage ...yes, she's great. For the movie ...keep her far away!

i do have to say, HAPPY BIRTHDAY RENT!!!!! And also if the show closes in the next year, they should bring back the ENTIRE OBC reguardless of age to close the show the way it opened.. PERFECTLY.

Amneris I completely agree!
Or even if the show doesn't close next year, whenever it does they should bring the OBC back for one final show to end all shows. They brought the roles to life, it seems appropriate that they put them to final rest whenever that may be.

Karmine Alers and, of course, Daphne.
Equally amazing.

Regarding Dominique: I think she's the first Mimi I've ever seen that truly makes me believe that she's a junkie. I had a couple issues with her voice, and the fact that she literally seemed to CLIMB Cary during Goodbye, Love. But overall, I was really, really impressed.

Daphne was my ex-boyfriend's acting partner so she used to call our apartment all of the time.
I used to get a kick out of hearing her voice on our answering machine.

Why, thank you. XD I made a few more movie-shot icons... One of Wilson as Angel, one of a trio (Adam, Jesse, Wilson), one of Anthony. I'll probably make more later, when I have more time on my hands.
Karmine, though... I saw her a couple months ago, and I loved her to bits. Seriously. I really wish I had a chance to *SEE* Daphne, although her performance on the OBC alone has enough power to show how well she suited the role.
I'm hoping Rosario Dawson will make just as great a Mimi. From what I hear of her voice and see of the set photos... Well, let's just say I have a ton of faith.
