What I have to ask is whether the In the Heights number representative of what the show itself is like. I really feel like I should see it, but that performance really put me off. It seemed really trite, not to mention overproduced. But I hate to judge a show by one song. So...worth going? Or if I hated that, will I hate the whole show?

I actually was pleasently suprised with Cry-Baby. The tap dancing was very cool.
I thought the best performances of the night was Whoopi. LOL

Unlike everyone else, I was not too thrilled by Xanadu. I was expecting a lot more energy.
Gypsy rocked the house. Holy crap. So happy for Patti, Laura, and Boyd. They were by far the highlight of the evening.
Sunday was my other favorite. They chose the best song.

Patti reqally did send the ball right out of the park...
You know, the cast of Xanadu is very talented (the only reason that thing is still open),but lord.... what joke of a show. The selection didn't help it much. But his legs are sure nice!!!
There were LOTS of pitch problems last night... I mean lots.... maybe they couldn't hear the orchestra? I only say that because so many people were out of tune all night. TO be fair; they had rehearsal in the morning, and many of them had shows that day (that IS a difficult situation).
Not the best TONYs by any means. Yes, Patti was a bit of a Diva, but after 28 years.... why not? At least she is a REAL theater personality. not too many of those around anymore.....

In the Heights and Passing Strange were dreadful
I really liked Cry Baby, Little Mermaid and Young Frankenstein. Tho I wish Little Mermaid had been longer. I also loved Catered Affair.

In The Heights completely blew me away. It was incredible.
Xanadu, Cry Baby and Gypsy were great too.
Passing Strange and Grease were horrible.

best, by far. Xanadu. cheyenne really gave it to everyone, showing he was MUCH more deserving a Lead male nomination over stew and lin.......
gypsy was great.
i enjoyed cry baby and lion king.

so sick of hearing sierra sing poyw.
in the heights was awkward (and i was IN THE AUDIENCE)
poor poor passing strange. that song did nothing for them, and its terrible bc its a pretty good show.

Best: Xanadu & Gypsy
Worst: Grease, and current cast of RENT doing their bit of LVB (that was awful, I wish only the original cast would have sang).

Oh, I know! Phone it in much? I love her, but jesus christ, the teacher from Ferris Bueller could have given her some charisma lessons.
It was awesome. - theaterkid1015
