Does anyone remember, or know, who played the king with Betty White on the road? As a child... I played the crown prince when the tour hit the old Cass Theatre in Detroit. Great fun...great memories for me.

Though no longer well known as a singer, White indeed sang quite well..: perhaps she still can.

Anna is an easy sing, I would've thought. If Gertrude Lawrence - for whom it was written - could handle it, I'm sure anyone else could. Remember sometimes the keys have been elevated for the likes of Kelli O'Hara, etc. It's not the singing role in the show.

I'm smiling from ear to ear. Thank you ![]()
Yeah I can see how this is much easier to sing (almost smooth and jazzy) than what the 2015 revival presented. I saw that with Marin and it felt a lot more difficult.

Years ago, when I was in the King and I and Betty White was Anna, the King was Eric Rhodes -- this was in Massachusetts. She was one-of-a-kind!

I saw her do the role at the Westbury Music Fair in the late 60 's. Allen Ludden was woefully miscast as the King.

I remember her being in a production of DOLLY! as the lead at a summer stock place back in the 60s/70s. Anyone have a picture?
