That was wonderful! He will be great!

He's great and all, but maybe he should keep his focus on the show that he's actually in before perfecting other roles.

Who knew a performance of a single number out of context was an accurate reflection of where a person's focus lies.

Well, considering he was doing workshops of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as recently as this summer, I don't really think singing a song for a website really caused him much distraction.

Because actors apparently cannot multitask. Darling, do you have any idea how many actors pull double-duty (or more) while doing 8 shows a week? He performed one song.

The first line's melody in Candy Man really sounds like a direct rip from "Children Will Listen". It's not even a nod, just a blatant steal.

Caption: Every so often there was a rare moment of perfect balance when I soared above him.

Candy Man was in the Gene Wilder film, which precedes Into the Woods.

I wonder if they will change the lyrics to "Candy Man" for this production since Wonka is singing them and the lyrics seem to be very "un-Wonka". Lyrics like "Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew?" or "Who can take a rainbow, wrap it in a sigh?", or even worse, "The Candy Man can 'Cause he mixes it with love And makes the world taste good". I am not knocking the lyrics as sung by the candy shop owner in the film, but put those same words into Wonka and they seem completely out of character. Even some of the lyrics to "Pure Imagination" were a bit "sugary" (no pun intended), but the staging in the film, with Wonka coming close to whipping the kids with his cane and then pulling out a strand of Mike Teevee's hair (plus Wilder's somewhat ironic delivery) made it work.

O'Brien is right about one thing; the loud, obnoxious, charmless production in the UK would NEVER work on Broadway.

I think wonka will be disguised as the Candyman similar to how wonka was disguised as a homeless man in the London production. So that's why it sounds like it's not wonka.

Anyone have any updated links that haven't been taken down?

I saw a video of the London production, didn't realize the only known song would be Pure Imagination. Is the broadway version being shaped more like the movie?

^ Yes. The Broadway production is going to have more elements from the movie. The book, score, and design are being reworked for Broadway.
