#0Boy From Oz Question

A friend of mine recently saw Boy From Oz, and was telling me that a woman seated in the first few rows came in about half an hour late. He proceeded talk to her for a bit and offer to catch her up on what she missed, and told the story thusfar to her. Then, early in Act Two, (I don't completely remember how this happened) but Hugh asked the woman if she'd come up and dance with him. When she did, I guess the orchestra wasn't playing music that Hugh felt was suitable for dancing, and asked them to play something better. My friend says that the orchestra's quick response made it seem like this may have been planned. And he did all of this while remaining in character.

Does something like this happen at every performance of BFO?

Not every show. he varies it. When I saw it, wwe sang happy birthday to a cast member and he gave the latecomers CDs and autographs at the bows.

No, Hugh is all about improv -- just as well because the book STINKS. If he has info he uses it. Sometimes he just reacts to things happening in the audience. He is a very smart, alert performer who is truly amazing at working the crowd. It's usually in the same spot because he is relating directly to the audience in that spot.

When I saw the show in November, nothing out of the ordinary happened, and he didn't dance with anyone from the audience.

He asked me if he should take his shirt off. I told him yes with a big smile. Then he did his dance and after blew me a kiss. Another gal said something to him and he talked with her for a few minutes and then later did the "grind" dance with a gentleman. He seemed to be looking to interact with the audience. It was a lot of fun.

So let me get this straight:
Those of us who are not rude, and show up on time get to enjoy the show as usual, but the rude moronic people who disturb others by walking in front of them to climb to their seats because they can't tell time are rewarded? That doesn't seem fair. re: Boy From Oz Question Perhaps I'll go and show up late...screw that fact that I'll be disturbing other theatre patrons! *please note sarcasm in that last sentence.*

He doesn't always choose the latecomers to "dance" with. He picks people from different parts of the audience --once he interacted with someone from the balcony.

When I saw BFO he let a woman come onstage and bite his ass. I'm seeing it again in July (and maybe even before then)
I can't wait. I have a slight crush on Hugh.

"I have a slight crush on Hugh. "

who wouldn't?

I can't wait to see this. I'll have to do some serious pondering over where to sit though. I was like two tables from the girl who got picked to dance with Emcee one time when I saw Cabaret... maybe with BFO I'll get luckier.

I have some good memories, too.

A friend and I got chosen for that special moment ( we were seated next to the wall on second row) - while it was exciting, it was also a bit uncomfortable ( having that Broadway spotlight focused on you for a few minutes can make you feel hot under the collar - seeing that you also have to dance something in front of 1400 people and follow what he is expert at doing onstage - the grind and bump re: re: re: re: re: re: Boy From Oz Question)...My friend was great, I think I just did the best I could re: re: re: re: re: re: Boy From Oz Question

But when Hugh went down on the stage and asked us "Kiss, kiss - girls ??? " we literally flew that two-meter distance to the stage in one-second flat for that smack on the cheek ( as someone likes to say, complete with traceable DNA re: re: re: re: re: re: Boy From Oz Question).

Now now, you were just fine Jo! re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Boy From Oz Question Didn't act uncomfortable at all!

And Hugh enjoys those moments!

Sounds like a lot of fun!

Lots of performers are talented and extremely good looking. Hugh is extraordinarily charismatic. He comes across good natured, good humored and so lovable. Sigh

Saw BFO in early December and Hugh did interact with a lady in the front mezzanine ... all seemed to enjoy it, especially Ruth, his dancing partner!
