Isherwood's picks seems to be more crazy, from FELA winning Best Musical and Best Actor to Scarlett Johansson winning Best Featured.
They BOTH picked Scarlett for both will and should win, not just Isherwood.

Trace, let's stay positive!! I'll start getting nervous if Angela loses the Outer Critics and Drama Desk. Then again, those don't always predict who will win the Tony.
I'm remaining positive.

Oops, didn't notice they both had Scarlett. Wouldn't that be something: Scarlett Johansson, Tony Award Winner.
And as much as I love her, I don't think Angela's performance is Tony worthy. If she wins, then it's because it's a slow season for women.

Posted: 5/15/10 at 7:27pmIt is kind of tragic that the season has been so bad really what is with Memphis getting so many nomination when so many critics hated it.g. As for NYT really they cannot decide half the categories and it will be Memphis or Fela for best musical.

Ok, ljay. It's difficult, but I will try to stay positive.
As adamgreer posted in the other thread, Brantley has been wrong before...at least Isherwood thinks that Angela *should* win.
I'm hoping for a Lansbury sweep with the Drama League Award, Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk and Tony.
Let's hope the voters on the dreadful "Team Finneran" are few and far between...
(SM2, you have not seen any of the performances live so your opinion on who should win is irrelevant)

Knowing ljay as well as I do, I would bet my house that he was being sarcastic about Team Plantadit.

In regards to the idea of including Off-Broadway in the Tonys, it will never happen (even though it should), not only because that would make it just like the DD and OCC awards, but also because the whole thing, as an awards show for viewers is built around the idea that Broadway is the best of the best anyway.
Ironically, a) it's not, and b) nobody really watches the Tonys anymore except theater fanatics, and true theater people know that the only thing that makes a Broadway production any different from a good regional theater production is its location and the amount of money put into it.

What's going on with Ben's picture? Is that his manhunt pic or something? I've never seen it before.
I haven't seen half of the Leading Women in a play, but from what I read here it seemed Linney was a shoe in.

BRANTLEY Not “Promises, Promises,” not even a discount ticket.
Ouch.

I do think Fela! could win. But you really think Plantadit will beat Lansbury, Finneran, and Cook? Sounds more like your "should win."

Posted: 5/16/10 at 1:46ami know call me crazy but, i think lansbury and cook will cancel each other out and finneran is in a weaker show and only stands in out in PP because KC has not been so well received.

...besides Plantadit is a very well deserving performer from the actor/dancer side of broadway shows. She alone gave THE most unique performance of the season in this category.

And the Tony's are run by producers of B'way shows. They fight it out for national airtime as it is. So, no, widening the pool of eligibility isn't going to happen.

EVEN IF everyone splits votes like you say they will, Lillias White will win before Karine because 1) she's a Broadway veteran who has won before and 2) she would ride the wave of the potential Fela! sweep. Karine doesn't stand a chance.
