That's my initial reaction, but really, if Woody Allen picked her over everyone else, she must have been great throughout the process. I'm excited to see if she can own up to it, I bet she will.

I will definitely give her every chance, but I truly havent loved her in anything since "Passion".

Maybe she will be absolutely brilliant and surprising (not to me of course-- I think she'll be brilliant already) because actors don't always play to type and she is certainly capable and overwhelmingly committed.

Why are so many so upset Marin is a great actress who has yet to get a tony and she was great in Ragtime which I did not see but have the album. Who will be great in the role

Genius Casting. Saw Marin once on stage years ago in KISS ME KATE and was enchanted by her. Cannot wait for her to utter the iconic phrases "don't speak and "I want to open the world up to you like a big vagina.

^^I know what you mean. Woody Allen may be a great writer and film director but he knows ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about casting women's roles. C'mon -- Diane Keaton? Cate Blanchett? Mia Farrow? Dianne Wiest? Scarlett Johansson? Geraldine Page? Maureen Stapleton? Mira Sorvino? Penelope Cruz? Judy Davis? Marion Cotillard? Patricia Clarkson? Barbara Hershey? Anjelica Huston? and so many others. What in the name of hell was he thinking when he cast these actresses?

Allen may have a reputation for being a little difficult to work with. Here's a great interview with Cate Blanchett from a couple days ago about her experience working in BLUE JASMINE. Still, he knows how to get a great performance out of an actress; honestly, he must have seen something out of the world about Mazzie for him to cast her in this, you don't cast Marin Mazzie for political/financial reasons. She must have worked her Ass off to get this part and it looks like it paid off.
