id cut off an arm to see this--Clarkson is such an interesting choice-- but reminder that Cox was comically bad when he played LBJ in Great Society a few years ago.

From what I understand, he was a last-minute casting choice as LBJ had very little time to prepare. He has ten months for Long’s Journey so hopefully that’s enough of a head start to learn the lines this time…
He was also wholly wrong for LBJ, and was being compared to Bryan Cranston.
of course, he has a lot more guys to be compared to here.......but it's a better play and a better part for him.
Will be interesting to see if he sells in London with this play. Great Society came on the heels of season 2 of Succession when everyone was falling in love with it, but it didn't sell.
I don't know if I'd cut my arm off to see this play again (having seen it 3x in NYC between 2016 and 2022), but it's great casting.

Dont know the backstory, and when I saw him (in the throes of Succession fandom) he was on book and technically fine. It was just a one-note histrionic performance, in a poor play-- and I wouldn't consider NOT seeing this bc of that debacle, dont get me wrong. Just tempering expectations a bit.
Cox seems to have a super-charged ego, and likes to run his mouth. We'll see how this goes.
Clarkson is an inspired choice.

I saw both All the Way and Great Society with my dad and grandpa. They're history buffs who've never watched Successsion and they both thought Cox was a better LBJ than Cranston.
Long Day's will obviously give him more to work with, though. He and Clarkson sound like a perfect pairing.

What does that have to do with a performance?

I'll be in London 3 weeks before this starts, this is a sad day
Wish I could see this. I adore Patricia Clarkson, she's one of my favorite actresses.

While this is factually true, many of history's best actors can match this description.
